2019 Lutheran Heritage Lecture Public Church, Public Youth April 1, 2019, 11:45 a.m (a light lunch will be provided) Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago – Room 350 1100 East 55th Street, Chicago Jeremy Myers Associate Professor and Director of the Augsburg Youth Theology Institute Augsburg University Jeremy Myers has been teaching at Augsburg University since 2006 His research includes youths’ experiences of God’s presence and activity, how young people construct theology, contemplative youth ministry practices, interfaith youth work, a vocational understanding of young people, and a public understanding of church Myers offers a vocational understanding of young people that frees them from the imitations of developmental and economic frameworks This understanding necessitates a public church which is a faith community seeking to proclaim good news in the public square for the common good The presentation will be interactive and will include the communal work of imaging what ministry might look like if shaped by these ideas Contact Dr Marvin E Wickware Jr., marvin.wickware@lstc.edu for more information
