Delta State University & The Chickasaw Council Merit Badge College January 4, 2020 on the campus of Delta State University Hwy West Cleveland, MS 38732 LEADER’S GUIDE New this Year We are offering Friday night camping on the DSU campus Arrival time needs to be before p.m We will have Wyatt Gymnasium available for cots and air mattresses for everyone to bunk down We are working on plans for activities for Friday evening This will include dinner and a dry breakfast The cost is $10.00 per person, and there is a place in the online registration to sign up MERIT BADGE COLLEGE All Scouts must wear full field (Class A) uniforms Registration is $25.00 per Scout Lunch is included Lunch for adults is $9.00 This is available to choose on the registration page Registration opens at 7:00 a.m The opening ceremony will be at 8:00 a.m in the Union building on the Delta State University campus Class times are from 8:30 a.m to 12:00 p.m and 1:00 to 4:30 p.m All day sessions will meet for the entire morning and afternoon sessions We have set aside an hour (12-1 p.m.) for lunch and moving to the afternoon session We will get everyone through the line and start moving toward the next session at 12:45 p.m All merit badge class choices are shown to either be morning, afternoon, or all-day classes Please look carefully at the times when you are choosing There are prerequisites or requirements that will have to be covered later for several of the merit badges These are shown with each merit badge offered As you know, most of these change from year to year, so we are trying to offer as much as possible, but some have become impossible to complete in one sitting We plan to be equipped to enter completed information into the advancement program for each Scout on site this year 10 There are several classes offered that will be off campus again this year We will need the permission and travel forms signed by parents/guardians turned in at registration Remember, Aviation has its own form and is included in this guide 11 We ask that leaders be willing to help us in providing additional leadership in classes Most of our counselors/instructors are not affiliated with Scouting and are doing this on their own personal time 12 A Scout who does not behave appropriately can be asked to leave and not receive credit for attending This rule has been given to the counselors/instructors for them to use if needed Please inform your Scouts they need to follow their schedule Being responsible for each Scout present, they need to be at the correct place on time 13 Each Scout will be provided with a folder that includes a workbook for the merit badges he or she has chosen, a pencil, and an event patch 14 We will have maps of campus to hand out at registration 15 Scoutmasters will be responsible for following up with merit badge completion and records for presentation 16 The link for registration is www.chickasaw.org/deltambc2020 17 Please contact us at deltaareameritbadgecollege@gmail.com or 662-719-9647 if you have any questions Merit Badge Highlights Auto Maintenance Taught at a mechanic shop Aviation Taught at DSU flight school building and, weather permitting, everyone get to go flying Beginner Swim This gives Scouts that are struggling with swimming an opportunity to get some extra instruction and practice Farm Mechanics Taught at the local John Deere dealership by one of their certified mechanics Law Taught by a federal judge at the courthouse; local attorneys and judges assist with the class and mock trial—a great opportunity! Metalwork/Welding Taught by a local machinist at his shop; the Scouts learn a lot and make something to take home Music Offered at the Grammy Museum Mississippi (on campus of Delta State) Plumbing A hands-on class taught by a local licensed plumber Railroading Taught at the local railroad museum; the Scouts get to run the trains!
