University The Academic Director provides leadership for the academic programs and teaching staff within the INTO Drew Center The Director will be responsible for the development of new programs for undergraduate and postgraduate English language learners, oversight of assessment, accreditation, and academic integrity/standards within those programs This includes management of teaching resources, faculty, academic program coordinators, academic supports, and related resources within the Center Reporting line This position reports directly to the Executive Director of INTO Drew University Key accountabilities and duties This is a valued role in a growing, dynamic organization Accountabilities of this position may change and develop over time, but will include the following:       This position includes 50% teaching responsibilities, or the equivalent of 7-8 contact hours per semester Ensuring that INTO Drew English language and pathway programs have carefully designed curricula that comply with market demands and provide students with a strong foundation for success Promoting and achieving student success and student satisfaction during and after Center academic programs Working to maintain standards set by the major professional bodies for Intensive English programs with a focus on standards for curriculum and student achievement Directing the accreditation application process for the INTO Drew University Center with appropriate accrediting agencies Collaborating with the Executive Director, University academic leadership and program coordinators to ensure the integration of language and undergraduate/postgraduate content courses Establish and maintain quality standards and stay abreast of current trends in the ESL field to ensure best practices Work with the academic program coordinators to oversee quality, standards and effective and efficient delivery of academic programs   Collaborate with the Student Services Team and Center for Academic Excellence to ensure students receive academic support services that provide a strong foundation for success Work with the INTO Drew Executive Director to provide operational level leadership to advance goals regarding enrollment, retention, and quality Duties include: o Contributing to the formulation of the annual budget and the regulation of expenditure in the INTO Drew Center Monitoring the financial performance of the Center through the efficient management of teaching resources, both those contracted independently and through various University departments, including teaching hours and class sizes o Developing opportunities for collaboration with key campus stakeholders, including academic departments, Academic Services, Student Affairs, and Admissions o Representing the Center in various campus committees and/or task forces at the request of the Provost  Participate on the Partnership Management Team to manage the academic operations of the Center Duties include: o Working in close cooperation with the Director of Student Experience, Center Finance, Admissions, and IT Managers to coordinate in areas that impact academic staff and students o Working closely with all appropriate staff at the Center and the University to ensure that Pathway students receive appropriate academic advising and direction on meeting progression requirements to the University o Liaising with INTO regional staff and Educational Counselors regarding academic programs, student academic issues, special programs, training and recruiting o Serve as an ambassador for the Center, meeting with groups, agents, sponsors, students, and other constituents to communicate and implement long and short-term goals of the Center and expand upon financially viable opportunities for contracts with groups  Building and sustaining a performance-based team environment for English language instructors Duties include: o Coordinating and ensuring follow through of the hiring, orientation, evaluation, and performance of English language faculty o Performing annual evaluations of direct reports o Serving as a role model for working with and advising students, maintaining collegial relationships and high professional standards in all matters Qualifications and Experience        Master's and/or PhD in Teaching English as a Second Language, Applied Linguistics or closely related field Significant experience in leadership in an ESL or INTO ESL environment Demonstrated ability to recruit, manage and motivate an academic team in a fast-paced dynamic environment Experience with ESL program assessment and the Commission on English Language Program Accreditation (CEA) process Creative, passionate, quick thinking, driven by energy and enthusiasm - coupled with personal warmth and approachability Commitment to University goals and strategies for expanding international programs Must be able to travel freely to and from the United States Skills and Abilities         A truly international outlook, with an ability to work in a diverse environment and to exhibit cross-cultural awareness and understanding Commitment to ethical professional practice High energy level and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment Hands-on approach to academic delivery, customer service and business growth Ability to reconcile twin imperatives of delivering high quality academic programs in a university context while working for a “for profit” organization Ability to build and manage relationships with peers, senior managers, university stakeholders, parents and students from a range of linguistic, ethnic and cultural backgrounds Ability to deploy and manage resources effectively with priority and time management Ability
