Dr Paul Pacheco did not have to travel more than a few blocks from his Chair’s office in the Anthropology Department on the SUNY Geneseo campus to find a treasure trove of worked stones, artifacts, and 18 different types of arrowheads from Native people Thebes arrowheads and Big Sandy points in the Museum’s collection are dated to be between 8,000-10,000 years old! Raffle tickets will be for sale during open hours at the Museum as well as during the Geneseo and Avon summer festivals 1:30 pm Abbey of the Genesee-Brother Anthony Program presented at the Museum May 1:30 pm Semi-annual LCHS meeting and Opening Reception for “Our Towns: The History of Livingston County in 25 Objects” exhibit August 19 8:15 pm Movie on the Green-Co-sponsored with Friends of Wadsworth Library Rain date August 20 August 27 10:00 am- 3:00 pm Attic Treasures Sale Donations graciously accepted throughout the year September 11 1:30 pm Women Entrepreneurs in Livingston CountyAmie Alden October 1:30 pm Digging up Memories of Main Street-Dick Hatheway Co-sponsored with APOG November 1:30 pm Semi-Annual Meeting and-History of the National Guard in – Bob Kelsey, Major US Army retired December 6:30 pm Member and Donor Reception Raffle tickets are only $2.00 or three for $5.00 The winner will be announce the first Friday in December just in time for Christmas! LCHS will be hosting our annual Attic Treasures fundraiser on August 27th, 2016 We would be happy to accept your donations until then to sell at this fundraiser LCHS looks for donations of quality and historic items that will then be offered for sale to the public Profits support LCHS’s care of collections Please note that no museum objects will be sold at these sales Starting May 1, 2016 the Museum will be open on Thursdays and Sundays from 2-5pm, or by appointment Thank you in advance for your contributions Do you want to rent a space to sell your wares? A 10 x 10 foot space is available for purchase Please contact lchistory@frontier.com or 585-243-9147 (MAY ADD SMALL IMAGE) LI V I NG S T O N C O U NT Y HI S T O R I C A L S O C I E T Y PAGE COOKING DEMONSTRATIONS-May 20th Have a glass of wine while watching Bee Perkins prepare dinner for you Make a few notes on the recipe cards made for the evening and then sit down and enjoy the meal that you have just learned how to create Bee has considerable experience at putting on intimate cookery demonstrations both here and in England To ensure that everyone has a good view tickets are strictly limited to 10 people per demonstration and cost $50 per person If you are interested in purchasing a ticket please contact Bee Perkins directly at beep@fdusa.com or 519-4209 to reserve your spot Likely, this event will be so popular, that Bee has already agreed to conduct another demonstration in October May 1, 2016 Volunteers & Docents New Exhibit Opening & Gear Up for 2016 is so very fortunate to have approximately Semi-Annual Meeting LCHS 30 docents and volunteers who help to keep the Join us for the unveiling of our new exhibit which has been several years in the making, “Our Towns: The History of Livingston County in 25 Objects.” Exercise your historical imagination as you encounter the stories and objects left behind by the generations of people who have called the seventeen towns of Livingston County home This exhibit will introduce you to a handful of the stories that contribute to the mosaic of life in Livingston County, Representatives from all towns in the County have contributed objects and stories that help tell us about early inhabitants, communities, industry, enterprise, and everyday life in Livingston County doors open between May and October 31 Docents training for this year begins on Friday April 1st and runs each Friday in April from 45pm Docents, and interested potential docents, should know that attendance for all sessions is not required Docents this season will be trained about the new exhibits and will also have opportunity to meet with Tourism Director Elissa Leuer to receive “service training for the public.” Stay for a brief semi-annual meeting After all, as a LCHS member, you help to determine the direction of the Livingston County Historical Society and Museum Image of the McPherson Steamer on Conesus Lake included in the exhibit Courtesy of Lore DiSalvo PAGE Meet the SUNY Geneseo Spring Interns DANA FIEL I am a sophomore Economics major and Museum Studies minor at SUNY Geneseo I’m from Syracuse, New York and have two siblings At the museum I’m in charge of running social media and advertising events Among these responsibilities are creating flyers and mass emails, researching pieces in the museum to post on facebook, and cataloging inventory into the museum database I would like to someday work in a museum either doing marketing/ social media, creating exhibits, or doing something with finance I love to travel so the dream job for me would be working in a museum abroad CALEB WEISSMAN I’m a Junior History major at SUNY Geneseo with a minor in Museum Studies I am from Elwood, Long Island and I have one brother who has graduated college I have always enjoyed studying and writing about history, which fits perfectly with my position here which is focused mainly of collections management and making signage I primarily work with the military collection of the Livingston County Historical Society My hobbies include watch movies and amateur fencing ADAM PEASE I'm a junior History Major with minors in anthropology and museum studies at Geneseo I come from Watertown, which is up north of Syracuse, I first became interested in working at the museum after my visit last semester when I heard about the internship opportunities Here at the Museum I work with the Native American collection and am currently working to have an exhibit finished by the end of the semester I have always had an interest in all things Native American, and after working with the archaeology field school through Geneseo last summer my interest increased to an even higher degree
