Call for Entries: Deadline Aug 24, 2019 “ALCHEMY” National Juried Exhibition October – November 3, 2019 “CREATING COMMUNITY THROUGH ART” Alchemists were notorious for attempting to make synthetic gold, but their goals were far more ambitious: to transform and bend nature to the will of human imagination “The aim of alchemy, to both imitate nature and transcend it, lies at the heart of artistic practices Creativity itself can be said to describe a process of going beyond mere imitation—to create a new reality.” – Nora Landes The Arts Guild of Sonoma invites artists to express their dreams, desires, mysteries, symbols, creativity and enlightenment in ALCHEMY, our annual National Juried Exhibition JUROR: Jenny Gheith, SFMOMA Jenny Gheith is Assistant Curator of Painting and Sculpture at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art Gheith previously served as program director for the Society for Contemporary Art and curatorial assistant at the Art Institute of Chicago, and has taught at the California College of the Arts and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago REQUIREMENTS: Open to all artists nationally (over 18 years) in the mediums of Sculpture, Printing, Painting, Photography, Ceramics, Assemblage, Collage, Mixed Media, Fiber Art, and Book Art This exhibition does not accept jewelry, video, film, performance art, installation or artwork requiring a power source All work must be original - no reproductions No works over 50 pounds 2D work: may not exceed 40” horizontally and 60” vertically, must be wired (no sawtooth hangers), and unframed canvases must have painted edges 3D work: may not exceed 16” width/length and 48” height, and must include a stable base or hanging hardware, if applicable The gallery will furnish pedestals as needed AWARDS: $500 for Best of Show, and $100 each for up to three honorable mention awards CALENDAR: Digital entries uploaded Email/website notification of results Hand-delivered accepted works Shipped accepted works received Show opens Opening Reception Show closes Unsold work picked up / shipped out by Saturday, August 24, midnight local time by Saturday, September 7, midnight PDT Sept 20 and 21, from 11am-5pm by Sept 21, from 11am-5pm Thursday Oct 3, 11am Saturday Oct 5, 5-7:30pm Sun Nov 3, 5pm Mon Nov 4, 11am-5pm FEES and ENTRY PROCEDURES: $40 for up to three entries $5 discount for AGS members Entry fees are nonrefundable Work will be selected from online submissions at www.artsguildofsonoma.org/alchemy processed through Entrythingy.com It is the artist’s responsibility to review and abide by the rules and procedures for submission, jpeg sizes and payment as outlined in the entry form provided by Entrythingy DELIVERY and PICK UP of ACCEPTED WORKS: Detailed information will be supplied to artists with accepted works on Sept SALES: All works must be for sale Artists receive 60% of the sales price of the work Sales occurring up to 30 days after the closing date of the exhibition are subject to a 40% donation to AGS EXHIBITION, LIABILITY and IMAGE USE: No substitutes will be accepted for selected works Work must be on view for the duration of the exhibition AGS and its representatives assume no liability for damage or loss Insurance for damage or loss is the sole responsibility of the artist Artist agrees that selected works may be used by the Arts Guild of Sonoma to advertise and promote this exhibition Entry into this exhibition constitutes an agreement to comply with all rules and conditions set forth above Submit questions to Mark Zukowski, admin@artsguildofsonoma.org Arts Guild of Sonoma  140 E Napa St., Sonoma CA 95476 (707) 996-3115  www.artsguildofsonoma.org
