County United Way (OCUW) is a leading voice, respected advocate and powerful influencer across the entire nonprofit and social services landscape as well as the corporate and philanthropic communities OCUW serves as a dynamic community leader and change agent The organization is an inspirational visionary for improving lives in Orange County However, beyond mere inspiration, through proactive and dynamic Community Impact Programs, Orange County United Way is directly leading the changes necessary so the next generation can prosper and succeed in all aspects of life At Orange County United Way, the goal is to create a stronger community where everyone has access to a quality education, a sustainable income, better health and stable housing—the building blocks for a good life Since 1924, Orange County United Way has been at the forefront of health and human care services in Orange County While the community has changed over the years, their mission to improve lives and strengthen the community has remained the same, while their model has evolved to even more effectively address key critical issues They continue to mobilize the caring power of Orange County—by collaborating with nonprofit agencies, corporate partners, and generous donors—to meet the greatest needs of the community A UNITED VISION Orange County United Way’s quest is to ensure that every child has the chance for a good life Three years ago, they led a community-wide strategic planning process to identify the greatest needs in the community The result is a strategic plan called FACE2024 With FACE2024 as their guide, OCUW mobilizes the community to come together to face the toughest issues facing Orange County today Together, they are creating brighter futures for children and the community, where:     Every Orange County youth receives a high-quality education Struggling families are well on the path to financial independence Our next generation are the healthiest in the nation Homelessness for our children and their families is a thing of the past To effectively lead the organization’s contributions to a stronger community, the President/CEO must fully embrace and champion all aspects of FACE2024, accepting responsibility for leading the achievement of its stated goals and objectives FACE 2024 Creating a better future for the next generation In 2014, Orange County United Way began implementing FACE 2024, a 10-year collaborative, communitywide action plan, designed to inspire change and create a more hopeful future for Orange County with a strong focus on the next generation FACE is an acronym for Fund, Advocate, Collaborate and Educate: FACE 2024 is focused on long-term solutions to the most critical challenges facing Orange County children and families:     Cutting the high school dropout rate in half Reducing the percentage of financially unstable families by 25% Increasing the number of healthy youth by one-third Cutting the number of homeless and housing OPPORTUNITY The President/CEO is the leader of the Orange County United Way organization, establishing a vision for Community Impact that is achieved through the efforts of a diverse team of high-performing leaders, staff and volunteers alike The President/CEO is the Chief Mobilizer; leverages the power of relationships and networks, and works across private, public and corporate sectors to improve conditions in the community The President/CEO possesses a high level of broad business and management skills and is effective at generating resources and financial support for the organization The President/CEO is dedicated to shared and measurable goals for the common good—creating, resourcing, scaling and leveraging strategies for broad investment and impact The President/CEO is the steward of brand and understands their role in growing and protecting the reputation of United Way—they value networking and strive to leverage United Way’s breadth of community presence, relationships and strategy SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY  Community Impact – The President/CEO is responsible for the overall impact of Orange County United Way on the community, with an emphasis on increasing its capacity to drive the impact agenda The President works closely with the Board to craft and adapt the strategy to achieve this increased impact, including raising the funds to support it This leader will establish and build relationships with top leaders in the community, including those representing the highest levels in business, government and non-profit sectors  Resource Development – The President/CEO is charged to drive key results in fundraising; to identify, cultivate and solicit prospective donors and key leaders of prospective new corporate partners; to leverage personal and professional contacts and relationships into fundraising opportunities; and to promote a culture of fundraising in the organization, both at the staff and board level  Strategic Management – The President/CEO serves as the principal resource to the Board of Directors and its key committees and gives strong direction in policy formulation and interpretation S/he partners with the Board of Directors and the United Way leadership team to craft organizational goals and develops strategies to ensure that they are achieved S/he ensures coordination and alignment of all Orange County United Way activities to strategic direction in the areas of community impact, resource development, and staff alignment  Organization Management – The President/CEO is accountable for building and leading high-performing teams, ensuring all teams are aligned and collaborating to achieve organizational results S/he maintains accountability for the operational and fiscal integrity of the organization within policies set by the Board of Directors The President/CEO assesses organizational capacity to implement strategies and identify gaps in systems and staffing; directly supervises Senior Leadership positions and establishes individual goals; works with the Senior VP, Operations to manage organizational spending, monitor budget compliance, and mitigate financial risks; and ensures that United Way goals of inclusiveness and diversity among staff and volunteers are met Perform other Orange County United Way duties as assigned It is the responsibility of all Orange County United Way staff members to recruit, train and work with volunteers and to treat all clients, volunteers, guests and other employees in a courteous and respectful manner, maintaining a cooperative Partnerships – Continue and strengthen the organizational momentum among the nonprofit, government and social services sector, reinforcing the leadership position of Orange County United Way as a community change agent  Brand Positioning –Communicate and market the unique role United Way plays in Orange County, celebrating the significant impact the organization makes in improving lives and strengthening the overall community  Financial Goals – Ensure achievement of Board-established financial goals and maintain and further strengthen the organization’s current financial stability SKILLS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED         Experience working in the nonprofit sector, and interacting with volunteers and diverse boards Alternatively, extensive experience in the leadership and management of for profit organizations of comparable size Expertise in issues relevant to the organization Ability to command the confidence and respect of stakeholders A demonstrated track record of promoting diversity and an ability to build collaboration with the community at large Experience in or across multiple sectors, including nonprofit, public and corporate environments Experience in developing partnerships, building teams and conflict management Experience in enhancing brands, building revenue and increasing philanthropic support Must demonstrate a high level of intelligence and
