IIDA CAMPUS CENTER AWARDS BEST THING EVER 2021 OU Interior Design Student Association Interior Design Student Association (IDSA) is a student-led organization unique to The University of Oklahoma We provide students with professional and academic opportunities within the interior design industry through informational lunch & learns and networking meetings What We Do: •Expose students to the interior design industry •Host meetings, events, and socials •Offer opportunities for scholarship, leadership, & volunteerism •Connect students to peers and professionals (educators, reps, designers) •Share useful information about school, professional organizations, and careers •Advocate for IIDA and ASID membership / involvement Leadership Team Our officers are selected to represent each class level for a well-rounded team Through mentorships, we created “elect” official positions, where underclassmen can shadow upperclassmen roles Leadership: Faculty Advisor - Natalie Ellis (professor) IDSA President - Keyvie Troy (senior) IDSA President Elect - Kaitlin Salisbury (junior) IIDA President - Riley Fleming (senior) IIDA President Elect - Gillian Stinson (junior) ASID President - Ashley Schlepp (senior) ASID President Elect - Madison Bules (junior) Secretary - Elena Miller (senior) Treasurer - Mackenzie Matray (senior) Service Chair - Abby Bilsbury (junior) Social Chair - Olivia Aasheim (junior) Membership Chair - Liz Romero (senior) Membership Chair - Audrey Warren (senior) Publicity Chair - Elisabeth Wahlgren (junior) Publicity Chair - McKenna Cash (sophomore) Rep Chair - Gabby Lamanna (junior) Rep Chair - Bella Gray (sophomore) Membership This year we currently have 71 members We increased membership involvement each year by offering exclusive networking meetings with professionals and a mentorship program within our school’s interior design program We also increased engagement at meetings by hosting topical discussions related to our field, introducing material samples from manufacturer reps to share with students, and providing competitive scholarships to members Our strategy of membership engagement through publicity consists of social media, monthly newsletters, and on campus marketing through posters and announcements IDSA Lunch & Learns Traditionally, our meetings are held in person for better interaction with our guest reps and to understand materiality physically However, as we transitioned into meeting virtually, we were able to expand our meetings from monthly meetings to bi-monthly meetings, to increase networking opportunities Whether in-person or not, the meetings allow students to meet and get advice about classes, professional development, and learn about upcoming events Service We engage with our local community through events provided through our college as well as events through IIDA Particularly, we have students participate yearly in the IIDA Zero Landfill drop off, which teaches students the importance of sustainability and recycling materials Through our college, we participate in events that help raise money for student organizations Professional Development One of IDSA’s goals is to connect students with professionals to help them with the process of job applications, transition from student to professional, and prepare them for professional work We create these opportunities for students by encouraging them to attend professional organization events such as IIDA and ASID Two of our biggest student events are the IIDA Shift Conference and the ASID Student Career Day IDSA also hosts their own professional panels and mentor days where we bring professionals from various types of cities, firms, and job roles to give advice to students Student Engagement Our student’s engagement involvement consists of Professional and collegiate involvement Fun activities that members have to look forward to: • • • • Interior design off-campus hangouts College of architecture mixer with architecture and construction science students T-shirt design competition and sales Napkin sketch competitions Thank You IIDA
