TODAY’S DREAMS TOMORROW’S LEADERS ANNUAL benefit sponsorship opportunities Cocktail Reception, 6:00 pm Dinner + Program, 7:30 pm Dessert + Jazz Reception, 8:30-9:30 pm www.KaplanEdFoundation.org 05 JUNE 2018 Harvard club of New York Dear Friend, When the Kaplan Educational Foundation was established in 2006, we crafted a mission to help underrepresented students of exceptional merit achieve their dreams through both leadership training and transfer from community college to top colleges As we celebrate our 12th year of positively changing the educational opportunities and futures through the Kaplan Leadership Program, we are also thrilled that, thanks to the support we have received, we launched the Transfer Initiative Program allowing us to serve more students We also published Your 2018 Guide to College Transfer and distributed it nationwide to ensure that more students across the U.S also have access to transfer admissions and financial aid information for the top 90 colleges and universities It is business partners like you who are the key to our success in positively and directly affecting the lives of our scholars and the many students who attend community colleges and aspire to have a positive impact on their communities Their journey from community college to selective colleges and universities ultimately changes the trajectory of their lives! This year’s Benefit theme is “Today’s Dreams, Tomorrow’s Leaders.” The event takes place on Tuesday, June 5th at the Harvard Club of New York We are thrilled to honor Daniel R Porterfield, Ph.d, president of Franklin & Marshall College and incoming President and CEO of the Aspen Institute for his lifelong commitment to inclusivity and diversity His impact and emphasis on enhancing academic excellence, promoting student access and success by strengthening resources for holistic student development, make him an exemplary leader in higher education I want to personally invite you to become Public Charity Established in 2006 through the support of a generous endowment funded by Kaplan, Inc executives, its mission is to eliminate barriers to education for an underserved, deserving population of Black and Latino students of exceptional academic merit from New York City’s community colleges and develop them as world leaders and advocates for their communities In 2006 the Kaplan Educational Foundation launched the Kaplan Leadership Program (KLP), a highly comprehensive program that provides: Financial aid • Academic support • Transfer admissions advisement • Cultural enrichment • This trailblazing model provides the bridge for community college students to top-tier 4-year colleges and universities and prepares them to excel academically Kaplan Leadership Program alumni have graduated with honors, landed notable positions in their fields and earned degrees from highly selective graduate schools Kaplan Scholars are changing the world Taking Steps Together The Kaplan Educational Foundation’s support begins early in a student’s studies and continues through the completion of a bachelor’s degree Financial assistance includes scholarships and additional funding to assist with other educational and living expenses We also provide Kaplan Scholars with: Laptops, books, school supplies • Transportation funding and monthly living stipend • College trips • Emergency funding • Academic advising and transfer admissions guidance and support • Supplemental instruction in Math and English • Test preparation for undergraduate and graduate admissions • Funding for educational and living expenses, including study abroad • Scholarships • Cultural enrichment • Career counseling and job placement support • Godwin Boaful Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown non-traditional, first generation and low income backgrounds There are currently 11 Cohorts This includes 29 active Kaplan Scholars in the program and 38 alumni 92% of accepted Kaplan Scholars transfer to a competitive 4-year college or university Your Support Makes a Difference The living stipend is vital and makes it possible for students to engage more fully in their studies and in extracurricular activities, which prepares them for future leadership roles The Kaplan Leadership Program proves that low-income, first generation community college students of color can successfully transfer and excel at selective colleges and universities Top-tier colleges and universities actively pursue and recruit KLP scholars for transfer Our comprehensive, high-touch approach is central to scholar successes, particularly in preparation for transfer 100% of our alumni are employed full-time at jobs in their fields of study or are attending graduate school Expanding Our Reach: Transfer Initiative Program In September 2017, we launched the Transfer Initiative Program (TIP) for community college students of color who were not admitted to the KLP but have a leadership profile and a clear desire to transfer to selective colleges and universities We provide TIP students with transfer admissions advisement and individualized writing coaching, as well as financial support which covers transcript fees, financial aid application fees and testing fees Alumni have distinguished careers in education, nonprofit, scientific research and Fortune 500 companies including Colgate Palmolive and JP Morgan Chase More than 30% of alumni are in or have completed Medical school, Law school, and have a Master’s in Public Administration, Social Work and Engineering Nolvia Delgado Smith College, Government, Concentration in Third World Development with a focus on Latin America, C’11 Borough of Manhattan Community College, Liberal Arts, C’09 Vassar College, 2008 Exploring Transfer Program Many selective colleges and universities actively recruit and provide substantial financial aid to Kaplan Leadership Scholars 90 school profiles with specialized info for: Veterans DACA and Undocumented Students with Family Guide To College Transfer Selective colleges and universities recognize that transfer students with drive and determination and demonstrated success at their community colleges arrive on campus prepared to not only meet the challenges but excel in their chosen fields The Kaplan Educational Foundation recently published Your 2018 Guide to College Transfer
