The Search for Peace in Times of Chaos—Volume He spoke at several –‡”ƒ–‹‘ƒŽ ’‹”‹–‹•–• ‘ˆ‡”‡…‡• , in which he defended the doctrine’s philosophy and objective, and he wrote several books13 on the subject All this while Kardec was compiling four other works: Š‡ ‡†‹—•ǯ ‘‘ǡ a practical treatise on medianimity and evocations on 1861, Š‡ ‘•’‡Ž ƒ• š’Žƒ‹‡† „› ’‹”‹–•, an exposition of morality from the ’‹”‹–‹•– point of view on 1864, ‡ƒ˜‡ ƒ† ‡ŽŽ , a vindication of the justice of the divine government of the human race on 1865, and Genesis, showing the concordance of the Spiritist theory with the discoveries of modern science and with the general tenor of the Mosaic record as explained by Spirits on 1867 He also published two short treatises entitled Šƒ– ‹• ’‹”‹–‹•ǫ  and ’‹”‹–‹• ‡†—…‡† –‘ ‹–• ‹’Ž‡•–š’”‡••‹‘  It is to be noted, in connection with the works just mentioned, that Allan Kardec was not a medium and was consequently obliged to avail himself of the skills of others in obtaining the spirit communications from which the writings were compiled through many thousands of mediums, unknown to each other, belonging to different countries, and to every variety of social position Having suffered for many years from heart disease, in 1869, Allan Kardec drew up the plan of a new Spiritist organization, which should carry on the work after his death But Allan Kardec was not destined to witness the realization of the project in which he took so deep an interest He passed away on in 1869 by the rupture of the aneurysm Allan Kardec refers to Spiritism as a science involving the relationship between spirits and human beings Because of that, some Spiritists see themselves as not adhering to a religion, but to a doctrine with a scientific cornerstone with moral teachings On the other hand, many Spiritists consider it a religion as well “Spiritism is now studied and practiced in many countries around the world For example, the countries that belong to the –‡”ƒ–‹‘ƒŽ ’‹”‹–‹•– ‘—…‹Ž  include Angola, Argentina, Belgium, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, El Salvador, Spain, France, Guatemala, Italy, Japan, Mexico, The Netherlands, Norway, Paraguay, Peru, Portugal, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, United States of America, and Uruguay.”14 ~ 203 ~
