Robyn Lebron members of the College of Cardinals…meet in the Sistine Chapel in Rome to elect a new pope They will stay locked in the chapel until they get a majority vote for one man The title Cardinal is a rank of honour bestowed by Popes on certain ecclesiastics, such as leaders within the Roman Curia, bishops serving in major cities and distinguished theologians Although this election, known as a papal conclave, can theoretically elect any male Catholic as Pope, since 1389 only fellow Cardinals have been elevated to that position.15 The osary The rosary is a prayer and meditation on the life of Christ The early Christians did not have Bibles and by saying the Rosary they were meditating on Christ’s life The actual Rosary beads merely assist the individual reciting the prayer to help keep track of where they are in the meditation The Rosary consists of four mysteries Prayer’s recited are: • The Joyful Mysteries: The Annunciation (Lk 1:30–31); The Visitation (Lk 1:42); The Birth of Jesus (Lk 2:7); The Presentation of Jesus in the Temple (Lk 1:22); The Finding of the Child Jesus in the Temple (Lk 2:46) • The Sorrowful Mysteries: The Agony in the Garden (Mk 14:32); The Scourging of Jesus at the Pillar (Mk 15:15); Jesus Crowned with Thorns (Mk 15:17); Jesus Carries his Cross ( Jn 19:17); The Crucifixion (Mk 15:24) • The Glorious Mysteries: The Resurrection of Jesus (Mt 28:5–6); The Ascension of Jesus (Acts 1:9); The Descent of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:2); The Assumption of Mary in Heaven (1 Thes 4:14); The Crowning of Mary (Rev 12:1) • The Luminous Mysteries: The Baptism of Jesus in the River Jordan (Mt 3:17); The Wedding at Cana, Christ Manifested ( Jn 2:11); the Proclamation of the Kingdom of God (Mk 1:15); The Transfiguration of Jesus (Mt 17:2); The Last Supper, the Holy Eucharist (Mt 26:26)16 ~ ~
