Dear alumni, parents and friends, Resilience and hope are hallmarks of Marquette’s response to challenging times Throughout our history, we have remained steadfast in the call of our Catholic, Jesuit mission and the pillars of faith, service, leadership and excellence The last year has demonstrated that more strongly than any other year before Our Marquette family has stepped up again and again to lead amid uncertainty and to lift others That’s why I am so excited to announce the public launch of Time to Rise: The Marquette Promise to Be The Difference The generosity of our alumni, parents, supporters and friends over the last four and a half years has built philanthropic momentum with the power to change lives — for students, faculty and our campus communities This heart for others has perhaps never been more important in allowing us to deliver the Marquette experience Guided by our values, committed to our ongoing promise to students, and driven by our Beyond Boundaries strategic plan, our campaign is supported through the passion of more than 115,000 alumni and friends across the world who make up our global Marquette family We extend our invitation far and wide to help the university rise through enriching and expanding opportunities for our students, supporting our teacher-scholars, fostering university-wide innovation and transforming our campus environments I encourage you to explore further in the enclosed case statement Countless people across our Marquette family have reached out asking how they can support our students, especially given the current state of the world Time to Rise offers that opportunity It truly is a “campaign to Be The Difference” in shaping Marquette’s future Thank you for your past support, your future consideration and your ongoing friendship toward Marquette We are profoundly grateful For Marquette, Michael R Lovell President Dear Marquette Community, In the mid-19th century, Milwaukee’s first archbishop, The Reverend John Martin Henni, traveled overseas to raise funds for his dream to create an “academy of learning” in his city During his visits, Archbishop Henni inspired a $16,000 gift from a Belgian businessman to further this pursuit Decades later, on August 28, 1881, Marquette College opened to serve the growing immigrant population Since our founding as Milwaukee’s Catholic, Jesuit university, we have carried forward Archbishop Henni’s pioneering spirit and resilience through academic excellence, our active faith, a commitment as men and women for others and as leaders making a difference in society Marquette continued to blaze a trail in 1909, becoming the first Catholic university in the world to admit women We launched one of the nation’s first engineering co-op programs long before internships existed, and during the civil rights movement in 1969, we started a now nationally recognized Educational Opportunity Program We also lead through centers like the Les Aspin Center for Government and, to this day, Marquette serves as the only School of Dentistry in Wisconsin Today, we stand on Marquette’s firm foundation amid challenging times, and we look ahead to our bright future I’m pleased to introduce Time to Rise: The Marquette Promise to Be The Difference This $750 million comprehensive campaign — our most ambitious in university history — seeks to usher in a new era of philanthropy that galvanizes our alumni, parents and friends like never before This is a campaign for everyone that has the power to create a Marquette culture of giving for generations Time to Rise is our philanthropic opportunity to boldly pursue our vision to be among the most innovative and accomplished Catholic, Jesuit universities in the world This multi-year fundraising endeavor will enrich and expand student opportunities, support our teacher-scholars, foster university-wide innovation and transform our campus environment The pages ahead share examples of how Time to Rise is already realizing significant momentum and coming to life through your generous support to Be The Difference Thank you for joining us on this journey to preserve Marquette’s founding mission and to help secure our future We are Marquette…and it’s Time to Rise Tim McMahon Vice President View looking upward between Marquette Hall and the steeple of Church of the Gesu University Advancement T I ME to lift up all We are collaborators, change agents, challengers of the status quo The brave and the bold who will answer the complex, urgent needs of today and tomorrow Now is our time to soar to new heights To give boldly of ourselves To invest in what counts To create a movement that will elevate not only our university but the world in which we live We are Marquette And it’s time to rise | MARQ
