With a population of over 1100 students, North Laurel Middle School utilizes MAP data to guide classroom instruction, direct remediation programs, and plan for enrichment/accelerated activities The school’s Assistant Principal and Curriculum Coach will share their methods and strategies for embracing data and turning a four letter word into a six letter word GROWTH Presenters: Tonya Rice, Assistant Principal & Kathy Vaughn, Curriculum Coach; North Laurel Middle School, Laurel County Schools, London, KY Session #2: Investigating Effective Teaching and Learning Strategies along with an overview of NWEA Professional Development Offerings People attending this session will be actively engaged in dialogue with their fellow participants on how they identify effective teaching and learning activities Using brainstorming and story-telling strategies, participants will learn first from their peers what their understandings are on this topic Participants will then hear from the NWEA Professional Development Team on what they have discovered over the years of research and partnering with schools to identify effective use of data and teaching and learning strategies This is highly interactive session and is appropriate for educators and administrators at all levels (Note this session is repeated in Round 3) Presenter: Tom Terlep, NWEA Professional Development Services Coordinator Session #3: MAP 201 An Overview of MAP Reports and available NWEA resources This will also include a demonstration of the Achievement Status and Growth (ASG) Calculator, the new School Norms User Guide, and other NWEA tools Presenter: Rick Weber, NWEA Account Manager Session #4: Woodford County’s Multi-Tiered Systems of Support/Response to Intervention model This session will overview the development and implementation of the assessment component of our Multi-Tiered Systems of Support/Response to Intervention model How various assessment data are analyzed and used to inform instructional decisions at the district, school, and classroom levels (i.e., curricular objectives, flexible grouping, scheduling, targeted intervention, etc.) Participants will examine components of the model and steps for establishing assessment systems to effectively integrate data into the collaborative RtI and Data Team processes Implementation of the model hinges on shaping a growth mindset among staff for all students at all instructional levels Presenter: Carrie Morris, Woodford County Schools, KY 11:30 a.m - 12:30 p.m Lunch and Q and A Panel with NWEA 12:40 p.m – 1:30 pm Session #1: Round of Breakouts (pick one) “A Picture’s Worth a Thousand Words” This session will explore how to examine MAP percentiles using a decile chart to provide an overall “picture” of class and/or small group student growth The session will also include discussion on how decile chart analysis can help teachers and administrators make informed decisions about student interventions, program effectiveness, and next steps for improvement Presenter: Mary Bowling, Principal;
