Dear Parents and Guardians: !Saludos! Greetings! I am writing to introduce myself to you and describe some of the activities and procedures that your child will be participating in at school My name is Fernanda Heppner and I will be your child’s Spanish teacher this year I am looking forward to working with your student to have an excellent educational experience I’m excited about the opportunity to get to know you and your student and I’m looking forward to a successful school year Our class will be studying the basics of the Spanish language and culture this school year Students will have textbooks and handouts that they will bring home for completing assignments and to use in studying for quizzes and tests Daily homework is assigned and all assignments are listed in the student’s notebook In addition to these assignments, students will be working on projects, group activities, research reports and other hands on activities to provide them with a variety of educational experiences Dates for all special projects are also listed in your student’s notebook I hope I will get to meet you soon at the next parent conference I am certainly looking forward to working with you and your child this year Please feel free to send me a note or call the school at (406) 5862838 and leave me a message or email me at fheppner@lamotteschool.com should you have any questions or concerns I also welcome appointments to meet in person Sincerely, Señora Heppner My name is Mrs Heppner and I will be joining the LaMotte team as the new Spanish teacher this year! My family and I moved back into MT from Dickinson, ND three years ago where I taught junior high and high school Spanish classes for years I later went on to receive my School Counseling degree from Northern State University SD and practiced as a high school counselor for years I am so thrilled to be in Montana and to be part of a fabulous school like LaMotte Here is a little collage to help you get to know me! We are going to be learning vocabulary and key phrases in the Spanish language in many different ways including singing, dancing, roleplaying, and crafts to help you to appreciate cultural differences between our culture and those of Spanish-speaking countries around the world CANT WAIT!  You can count on You can count on me: to listen and me: to listen and be there every be there every day with a smile day with a smile for YOU! START OF CLASS  Come into the classroom and sit in your assigned seat  Read the WEEKLY LESSON PLAN SCHEDULE The weekly schedule is located in front of the room END OF CLASS  Keep our classroom clean and safe  Remain at your assigned seat until you are dismissed INDIVIDUAL WORK  Students will work without talking during individual work time  Students are expected to their own work Academic dishonesty will result in a zero grade for that assignment/activity GROUP WORK  Make sure that all instructions are heard and followed  Be respectful of our neighbors  QUIET talking is allowed during group work EATING AND DRINKING IN THE CLASSROOM  Treats given to you in other classes must be completely eaten before you enter the classroom or saved until later  Treats given to you in Spanish class must be completely finished before the bell rings You will not be allowed to leave the room with food LEAVING THE CLASSROOM DURING CLASS  Students will be permitted to leave the classroom to get a drink or use the restroom at the beginning or end of the class period, but only when time allows Only one student will leave the classroom at a time  If you feel sick and not have time to ask permission, go straight to the restroom! TALKING AND ASKING QUESTIONS  Raise your hand to speak Wait to be called upon  Never interrupt someone while they are speaking  Quiet talking is allowed during group work ABSENCES  If a student is absent, they will be given ample time to make up their work If you know your child will be absent, please send a note ahead of time SUBSTITUTE TEACHER  All class/school rules will be enforced when a substitute teacher is here  Any infraction of the rules when a substitute teacher is in charge will result in a disciplinary notice with the School Principal and parents will be notified MATERIALS NEEDED FOR CLASS WHAT DO WE NEED TO BRING TO CLASS EACH DAY?  Spanish folder  Spanish notebook  Writing Utensil  A Great Attitude! GRADING  Your cumulative grade in Spanish class will be a combination of grades taken on the following tasks:     Daily Assignments: 15% Chapter Quizzes: 50% Daily Projects: 15% Daily Notes: 10%  A work ethic grade of 10% is given for preparedness and participation at the end of the Quarter  Students & parents are able to access Infinite Campus to view grades through the LaMotte School home page DISCIPLINE PROCEDURES  If a discipline issue occurs, I will speak to the student about it This is considered a warning  If a second discipline issue occurs a Discipline Form will be filled out and turned into the Head of School This will result in placement on the appropriate Discipline Procedural Step as outlined in the LaMotte Student Handbook Parents will be notified of the infraction  The consequence for further discipline issues will result in a meeting with the student, parents, teacher and Head of School If you would kindly fill out the information and return it with your student, it will make it easier for me to contact you and respond to your notes or calls, thank you Student Name _ Parent/Guardian Name _ The best way to reach me is: □ Home Phone: □ □ □ □ Cell Phone: Work Phone: _ Email: _ Send note home with student ... to listen and me: to listen and be there every be there every day with a smile day with a smile for YOU!
