AMCA Energy Strategy Workshop Understanding and Exploiting the Trend to Higher Efficiency in Air Systems January 25 (afternoon) – January 26 (morning) 2012 This workshop will help AMCA members supplement their business strategy by exploiting energy efficiency trends. Participation is designed for executives, product managers, and communications directors who influence corporate strategies. Cost: No cost – 40 participants only. Maximum of two participants per member firm. Speakers who have developed and implemented energy strategies will lead interactive case studies and envisioning exercises that will enable AMCA members to harness market demand and regulatory pressure for higher airsystem energy efficiency A professional facilitator will help challenge participants to consider how the following questions should impact their corporate business strategies: What are the immediate and longterm energy efficiency trends? How does our current corporate strategy deal with these trends? What can we learn from companies that have faced similar situations? Catania, Vice President Government Relations Whirlpool Corporation Tom Catania was named vice president, Government Relations at Whirlpool Corporation in 1997 He is responsible for executive management of the corporation’s government relations function. In this position he provides policy direction and participates in all government relations activities in the United States and globally. Catania has served Whirlpool’s strategic energy initiatives by participating on the Business Environment Leadership Council of the Pew Center on Climate Change and being a member of the Executive Committee on the Board of Directors of the Demand Response Smart Grid Coalition. Eugene (Smitty) Smithart, Director, Systems & Solutions Trane With over 35 years of industry experience, “Smitty” is the Director of Systems & Solutions for Trane. He is well known in the HVAC industry, having published numerous industry articles and having key involvement in a number of industry changing initiatives. Smitty is a recipient of the U.S. EPA Climate Protection award. At the time of the receipt, he was only one of five people in the world to have received this prestigious award. He is a former Marine and received his Bachelors of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Iowa, is a LEED AP and is a registered Professional Engineer in State of Wisconsin Amy Smith, PhD, Vice President of Research and Training The Ivanovich Group Dr. Smith is an expert in the fields of facilitated learning, strategic planning, and program assessment, with a 20year history of leading subject matter experts (such as engineers, educators, and business professionals) in planning, program development, and program assessment. Her style of facilitation quickly generates group participation toward sharing individual ideas and experience. Dr. Smith also is the department chair of three graduate and doctoral teacher education programs at Concordia University of Chicago. Combined, her programs have 17 full time professors, 100 adjunct faculty, and over 1,600 students Speakers Wade Smith, PE Moderator Vickie Lovell Energy Codes/Standards Michael Ivanovich, MSCE Trends in Energy Efficiency Wade Smith, Executive Director AMCA International Wade Smith has been the Executive Director of AMCA International since March 2011. Prior to joining AMCA, Smith was CEO of Wellspring Wireless, a manufacturer of ZigBee wireless control and metering systems, which he founded in 1996. Mr. Smith also had a 24year career at the Trane Company and American Standard, where he led the U.S. Plumbing Group for three years, the International Residential Air Conditioning business for one year, and the Building Automation Systems Division for five years. He is a 1972 graduate of the University of Wisconsin and holds a Professional Engineering (PE) license. Vickie Lovell, Consultant and President InterCode Inc Vickie Lovell specializes in the development process of model building codes and standards, particularly in energy, fire, and mechanical issues at state and national levels. She and her company, InterCode Inc., represent clients in all phases of the codechange process and product commercialization. Established in 1990, InterCode Inc. was established by Lovell to provide representation and strategic guidance to companies and trade associations that are involved in markets affected by changes in building codes and standards Michael Ivanovich, Director of Strategic Energy Initiatives AMCA International Michael Ivanovich was named as AMCA’s first Director of Strategic Energy Initiatives, effective July 15, 2011. Prior to joining AMCA, Mr. Ivanovich was president of a research and consulting company, The Ivanovich Group, and an awardwinning editorinchief for ConsultingSpecifying Engineer and HPAC Engineering magazines. His background also includes being a senior research scientist for the U.S. Dept. of Energy’s Pacific Northwest National Laboratory.
