Old newspaper C  ollect materials to build a bird’s nest from your garden, school playground or a park A bag for collecting material Dry grass Twigs Dry leaves Feathers Paper and cupboard rubbish Moss Garden soil and water to make mud Remember! You can only use materials that you find in the wild Birds can’t go to a shop to buy the building materials they need © www.rubytuesdaybooks.com/scienceKS1 Place sheets of newspaper on a table Lay out all your nesting materials B  egin by making a framework for the nest Weave twigs together to make a bowl shape Use moss, dry grass, leaves, feathers and pieces of paper or card to pad out the inside of the nest If you wish, make some mud by mixing soil and water Smear the mud onto the nest When the mud dries, it will act like glue to hold the other nest materials together Wash your hands with warm water and soap after making your nest Ask an adult to help you place the nest in a tree or bush outdoors – just like a real bird’s nest! © www.rubytuesdaybooks.com/scienceKS1 Name Date You were able to collect lots of nesting materials in one go and carry them in a bag How birds gather their materials?
