[Notes:02:36: after SOT] When Daryll was older, she was spotted by an athletics coach who suggested she join their local club A few years later, she won the 100 metres at the English Schools Championships and in 2014 began working with coach, Jonas TawiahDodoo Training at Lee Valley Athletics Centre, her times improved and she was selected for her first British vest [Notes:03:03: SOT: DARYLL NEITA (English)] EUROPEAN JUNIORS WAS REALLY GOOD, IT WAS AN EXPERIENCE MY FIRST PROPER CHAMPS OR EUROPEAN CHAMPS ANYWAY AND I CAME OUT WITH 4TH PLACE I WAS EXPECTED TO WIN THAT COMPETITION BUT I DIDN'T AND I WAS QUITE UPSET ABOUT THAT I THEN GOT THE CALL UP FOR THE ANNIVERSARY GAMES TO RUN IN THE BY RELAY, WHICH I WAS REALLY EXCITED ABOUT AND THEN AFTER THAT WE ACTUALLY WENT ON TO THE BEIJING WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS SO THAT WAS MY TRANSITION INTO THE SENIOR WORLD [Notes:03:27: after SOT] Daryll travelled to Beijing as a reserve in the Relay, and had a taste of what an elite athlete experiences at a major championships Although she didn't get the chance to race in China, it fuelled her desire to compete at the Rio Olympics the following year At the British Olympic trials, Daryll surprised many by running the two fastest times of her career to secure a place in the 100 metres [Notes:03:53: CU man watching athlete] Daryll made her Senior individual debut for Great Britain on the biggest stage of all, the Olympic Games [Notes:04:03: after gun] Running in the final heat of the 100 metres, Daryll missed out on qualifying for the semi finals by just one place [Notes:04:13: SOT: JONAS TAWIAH-DODOO (English)] HER PERFOMANCE IN RIO WAS POOR, SHE WAS DISTRACTED BY THE OFFICIALS BEFORE SHE WENT DOWN INTO HER BLOCKS AND DARYLL'S SOMEONE WHERE SHE NEEDS TO BE FOCUSED AND CLEAR SO SOME OF HER ROUTINE THIS YEAR IS ONE, THAT TO MAKE SURE WHEN SHE GETS ON THE LINE, SHES PREPARED SO PERFORMANCE WAS POOR, NOW WHAT DO I EXPECT FROM A FIRST TIME OLYMPIAN, NEVER GONE TO A MAJOR GAMES AS AN INDIVIDUAL AT SENIOR CHAMPS? I DON'T EXPECT TO HER TO OVERPERFORM, I'M A REALIST WHAT DO I EXPECT THIS YEAR? FAR BETTER THAT WHAT I WAS EXPECTING LAST YEAR [Notes:04:43: SOT: DARYLL NEITA (English)] I WAS ACTUALLY GUTTED WITH THAT I LEARNT SO MUCH FROM THAT EXPERIENCE THOUGH AND I KNEW THAT I HAD TO GET MYSELF PREPARED FOR THE RELAY BECAUSE THERE WAS STILL A JOB TO BE DONE AND I PICKED MYSELF UP AND THEN I WAS SO THANKFUL TO BE PICKED TO RUN IN THE RELAY BECAUSE AFTER MY PERFORMANCE I DIDN'T REALLY THINK THEY'D PICK ME, THEY DIDN'T REALLY HAVE A REASON TO SO WHEN I WAS CHOSEN TO RUN ON THE ANCHOR LEG, I WAS LIKE "I'M JUST GOING TO MAKE THE MOST OUT OF THIS AND RUN MY HEART OUT." [Notes:05:06: after SOT] The British 'four-by-one' relay team were buoyed by strong performances in the lead-up to Rio, winning silver at the European championships and setting a new national record at the London Diamond League [Notes:05:19: Olympic footage, women jogging towards camera] In Rio, the quartet qualified third fastest for the final, behind favourites Jamaica and the United States [Notes:05:31: SOT: DARYLL NEITA (English)] ALL I REMEMBER IS HEARING THE GUN, SEEING ASHA RUN AND THEN SEEING DINA'S LEGS COMING AT FULL SPEED TOWARDS ME WHEN I WAS LOOKING AT THE TAPE I DON'T REMEMBER MUCH OF THE RACE, I REMEMBER AFTER CROSSING THE LINE AND US JUST ALL CRYING AND HUGGING AND CELEBRATING AND JUST MAKING SURE WE DIDN'T SEE DISQUALIFIED OR ANYTHING SO IT WAS JUST THE MOST AMAZING FEELING AND THEN AFTER THAT DOING THE VICTORY LAP AS WELL WHICH TOOK ABOUT 40 MINUTES, BECAUSE WE WERE GOING AROUND AND SEEING ALL THE GB FANS WHICH WE ACTUALLY HAD LOADS OF IN THE CROWD WHICH WAS REALLY COOL [Notes:06:04: SOT: SUZIE NEITA (English)] I KNEW THEY WOULD, I KNEW THEY WOULD DEFINITELY GET A MEDAL, I KNEW THEY WERE IN FOR A MEDAL I HAD NO DOUBT ABOUT THAT AT ALL AND JUST SO HAPPY THAT THEY GOT THAT MEDAL AND JUST SEEING THEM CROSS THE LINE IT WAS JUST LIKE JUMPING FOR JOY I COULDN'T BELIEVE MY LITTLE GIRL AND THE WHOLE TEAM, ABSOLUTELY AMAZING BUT IT WAS JUST NICE TO SEE DARYLL BRING THAT BATON HOME, THAT WAS REALLY GOOD SHE DIDN'T LET US DOWN [Notes:06:28: after SOT] Away from the track, Daryll has strong creative streak She plans to start a fashion marketing degree later this year, with long-term dreams of designing her own sports wear But it's her video blog, or 'vlog', that she's becoming known for, which gives fans a sneak peek of life at training camps and competitions [Notes:06:50: SOT: DARYLL NEITA (English)] TODAY I FILMED A VLOG AND I'VE JUST FINISHED EDITING IT I LIKE TO TAKE FOOTAGE OF THINGS I GET UP TO BEHIND THE SCENES, PEOPLE ALWAYS HAVE SO MANY QUESTIONS ABOUT WHAT IS IT LIKE TO BE AN ATHLETE AND WHAT KIND OF THINGS DO YOU GET UP TO, SO I LIKE TO GIVE A LITTLE INSIGHT OF MY JOURNEY THROUGH MY YOUTUBE CHANNEL WHICH IS DARYLL NEITA, SO YOU CAN FIND ME ON THERE I LOVE THE CAMERAS, I LOVE FILMING, I LOVE THE PICTURE QUALITY, I LOVE PUTTING THINGS TOGETHER WITH MUSIC AND JUST THE ENTERTAINMENT IT GIVES OTHER PEOPLE PEOPLE LOVE MY VLOGS, SO IT JUST EXCITES ME TO MAKE MORE [Notes:07:21: SOT: DARYLL NEITA (English)] HELLO, I'M WITH TRANS WORLD SPORT TODAY, DOING AN INTERVIEW IS THAT YOUR FIRST EVER MIC FITTING? [Notes:07:27: SOT: SUZIE NEITA (English)] IT IS ACTUALLY, I ALWAYS SEE THEM ON THE TV WITH PEOPLE WITH BIG BOXES ON THEM [Notes:07:31: SOT: DARYLL NEITA (English)] SO I'M JUST WITH REECE PRESCOD, HE DESERVES A TRANS WORLD SPORT [Notes:07:36: SOT: REECE PRESCOD (English)] MAYBE ONE DAY! [Notes:07:37: SOT: SUZIE NEITA (English)] YOU CAN SEE EVERYTHING FROM A SHORT DISTANCE, CAN'T YOU [Notes:07:40: SOT: DARYLL NEITA (English)] AND NOW WE'RE GOING TO GO AND FINISH OFF THE FILMING [Notes:07:42: SOT: SUZIE NEITA (English)] AH SOUNDS GOOD! [Notes:07:46: after Vlog] Now aged 20, Daryll has had a mixed 2017 to date Whilst warm weather training in April, she suffered a Grade Two hamstring tear, delaying her start to the season [Notes:08:00: woman in gym (music beat kicks in)] Luckily she recovered sooner than expected and when finishing second at the British trials, Daryll booked her spot in the 100 metres for the upcoming World Championships in London After revising her best time down to 11.14 seconds, Daryll will head into the home championships full of confidence and with hopes for more medal success [Notes:08:25: SOT: DARYLL NEITA (English)] I'M REALLY EXCITED, WE WERE SUCH A YOUNG TEAM IN RIO AND THERE'S EVEN MORE YOUNGSTERS COMING UP NOW, SO THAT JUST GIVES US SO MUCH MOMENTUM GOING INTO THE FUTURE I REALLY FEEL LIKE WE CAN PROGRESS AND DO BETTER, GET FASTER, AIM FOR GOLD WE CAN REALLY DO THIS AS A TEAM, SO IT'S JUST ABOUT KEEPING US HEALTHY, KEEPING US IN ONE PIECE AND WE CAN REALLY PEROFRM ON THE BIG STAGE END Q&A / Sting BMX World - Championships – USA [Notes:08:52: gfx] Now it's time for this week's question Và câu hỏi thể thao dành cho quý vị khán giả [Notes:08:59: after gfx] Next week, the 2017 BMX World Championships get underway in the American city of Rock Hill, South Carolina [Notes:09:10: race start] The Elite Women's title-holder is Mariana Pajon [Notes:09:16: training bike] Known as the 'Queen of BMX', Pajon became first Columbian to win two Olympic gold medals following her victories at London 2012 and Rio 2016 The 25 year-old has also won a total of 14 medals at the BMX world championships Pajon holds three women's Elite titles, a record she shares with Argentina's Gabriela Diaz and Britain's Shanaze Reade [Notes:09:40: BMX jump] For this week's question, we want you to name the rider who has won the most men's Elite titles at the BMX World Championships [Notes:09:48: jumps off box] We'll bring you the answer later in the show END Feature / Sting Soccer – Za’Atari RefugeeCamp - JOR [Notes:10:01: from top] Twelve kilometres south of the Syrian border is the third largest settlement in Jordan, yet it was only established in July 2012 The Za'atari Refugeecamp is home to around 80,000 Syrian refugees who've fled south from the conflict that's plaguing their nation Young children make up nearly half the camp's population, and this is a fact not far from the mind of the president of the Jordanian Football Association Nằm cách biên giới Syria 20 km phía nam khu định cư lớn thứ Jordani, dù nơi xuất từ tháng năm 2012 Trại tị nạn mang tên Zaatari nơi sinh sống khoảng 80,000 người dân di cư đến từ Syria Trẻ em chiếm khoảng gần nửa số người sinh sống, mối quan tâm lớn ngày ông Ali Bin Al Hussein, chủ tịch hiệp hội bóng đá Jordani [Notes:10:30: SOT: ALI BIN AL HUSSEIN (English)] THROUGH FOOTBALL WE'RE MANAGING TO HELP THESE YOUNG KIDS, BOTH BOYS AND GIRLS, HAVE A FUTURE IN TERMS OF SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT AND UNDERSTANDING THEIR POTENTIAL AND WE USE IT FOR EXAMPLE WITH MINE RISK AWARENESS, WITH OTHER SOCIAL ISSUES AND TO GIVE THEM A HEALTHY LIFESTYLE, A FEELING OF WELL BEING, WHICH IS INCREDIBLY CRUCIAL AT THE MOMENT AND I THINK THAT THIS IS PROBABLY THE FIRST TIME THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED IN A REFUGEE SITUATION, TO USE FOOTBALL FOR SOCIAL EMPOWERMENT AND AS A TOOL TO IMPROVE THE LIVES AND LIVELIHOODS OF OUR CHILDREN BÓNG ĐÁ CÓ THỂ GIÚP ĐỠ [Notes:11:28: after SOT] After being elected a FIFA Vice President, Prince Ali, fourth son of the late King Hussein of Jordan, established the Asian Football Development Project It's an independent body dedicated to helping children across the continent With the Syrian Refugee crisis still unfolding, a number of international organisations have lent their support, including Scotty Lee's Spirit of Soccer Sau bầu làm phó chủ tịch liên đoàn bóng đá giới, Hoàng tử Ali, thứ vua Jordan Hussein, khởi xướng dự án mang tên Phát triển bóng đá Châu Á Đây dự án nhằm thúc đẩy phong trào bóng đá trẻ em khắp châu lục Với việc Syria ngày có nhiều người tị nạn, nhiều tổ chức quốc tế chung tay hỗ trợ dự án này, bao gồm tổ chức "Tinh thần Bóng đá" Scotty Lee [Notes:11:52: SOT: SCOTTY LEE (English)] SO THE IDEA THAT I CAME UP WITH AND DISCUSSED WITH HIS ROYAL HIGHNESS WAS THAT WE COULD DO A MINE RISK EDUCATION PROGRAMME AND A CONFLICT RESOLUTION PROGRAMME WITH JORDANIAN AND SYRIAN CHILDREN, BUT MAINLY CONCENTRATING ON SYRIAN CHILDREN TO EDUCATE THEM ABOUT THE LANDMINES AND THE LEFT OVER WEAPONS THAT WILL BE WAITING FOR THEM WHEN THEY RETURN TO HOMS AND ALEPPO AND DAMASCUS I MEAN, FOR THREE YEARS, WE HAVE SEEN PROBABLY ONE OF THE MOST BRUTAL WARS EVER TELEVISED AND THERE'S GOING TO BE A HUGE AMOUNT OF ORDNANCE, CLUSTER BOMBS, ARTILLERY SHELLS, LANDMINES, WAITING FOR THESE CHILDREN AND THEIR PARENTS WHEN THEY RETURN BACK TO THEIR HOMES WHEN, HOPEFULLY, THIS CONFLICT DOES END Ý TƯỞNG CHUNG CỦA TÔI VÀ HOÀNG TỬ ALI, LÀ TẠO NÊN CHƯƠNG TRÌNH NHẰM GIÁO DỤC TRẺ EM, ĐỒNG THỜI GIẢI QUYẾT BẤT Mine Risk Awareness programmes in Cambodia, Afghanistan and Iraq He employs locals and, in this case, has trained coaches from within the camp to work with the children What's at stake is far greater than just training the next generation of hopeful sporting talents Chương trình Scotty Lee triển khai quốc gia Campuchia, Afghanistan hay Iraq Anh tạo thêm công việc cho người địa, đào tạo thêm huấn luyện viên để dạy trẻ em chơi bóng đá Và điều có ý nghĩa lớn nhiều so với việc tìm tài thể thao [Notes:12:56: SOT: SCOTTY LEE (English)] BUT THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS REALLY, SORT OF, PUSH HOME THAT YOU KNOW WHEN YOU GO BACK, NOT ONLY ARE YOU GOING TO PREPARE TO BE A GREAT FOOTBALLER, BUT YOU'RE GOING TO HAVE TO BE REALLY, REALLY CAREFUL ABOUT BEING SAFE SO, YOU KNOW, WHEN YOU ARE TRAINING AND WANT TO BE THE NEXT STRIKER FOR SYRIA AND GO ON TO PLAY FOR REAL MADRID OR BARCELONA, BECAUSE THEY'RE ALL MASSIVE REAL MADRID AND BARCELONA FANS, YOU'RE GOING TO WORK JUST AS HARD TO KEEP ALIVE BECAUSE YOU SURVIVED THE WAR AND NOW YOU'VE GOT TO SURVIVE THE PEACE QUAN TRỌNG NHẤT LÀ KHI CÁC EM TRỞ VỀ, CÁC EM KHÔNG CHỈ LÀ CẦU THỦ BÓNG ĐÁ TÀI NĂNG, MÀ CÁC EM CÒN BIẾT LÀM THỂ NÀO ĐỂ CÓ THỂ TỰ BẢO improve the lives of the camp children They've built eight Football fields and are looking to expand their involvement, especially as there seems to be no end to the strife north of the border Chính phủ đất nước Na Uy tham gia dự án phát triển bóng đá Châu Á để giúp cải thiện sống em nhỏ trại tị nạn Chính phủ xây dựng sân bóng, chí lên kế hoạch để tiếp tục xây thêm [Notes:13:43: SOT: PER RAVN OMDAL (English)] THE WORLD CANNOT BE BLIND TO SEE WHAT'S HAPPENING IN SYRIA, FOR INSTANCE FOOTBALL CANNOT BE BLIND AND FOOTBALL IS AN EXCELLENT TOOL TO MAKE THE DAILY LIFE A LITTLE BIT BETTER, TO CREATE A LITTLE BIT BETTER UNDERSTANDING AND RESPECT FOR OPPONENTS AND FOR YOUR FRIENDS AND TAKE CARE OF EACH OTHER, INSTEAD OF FIGHTING BÓNG ĐÁ LÀ MÔN THỂ THAO KỲ DIỆU, KHI NÓ GIÚP CHO CUỘC SỐNG CỦA after fade] The Asian Football Development Project also supports other social schemes across the continent From India's marginalised children receiving assistance in the Magic Bus initiative to Cambodia's young girls at risk of human trafficking, AFDP is working in more than a dozen Asian countries and the list is growing Asia is a vast continent, so needs are many and varied However, there's a great sense of urgency with AFDP's projects at the Za'atari camp, where it's touched the lives of almost 30,000 children Dự án phát triển bóng đá Châu Á góp phần ủng hộ chương trình khác khắp châu lục Từ chương trình bảo vệ trẻ em bị lạm dụng Ấn Độ, chương trình chống nạn buôn trẻ em Campuchia, Dự án phát triển 12 quốc gia Châu Á, danh sách chưa dừng lại Châu Á châu lục rộng lớn, có nhiều nơi cần đến hỗ trợ Thế nhưng, với 30,000 trẻ em sinh sống nơi đây, trại tị nạn Zaatari chắn ưu tiên trước [Notes:14:47: SOT: SCOTTY LEE (English)] LIFE IS HARD ON THAT CAMP IT REALLY IS TOUGH, YOU KNOW, THEY STILL HAVE GOT PEOPLE BACK AT HOME DYING DAILY, YOU KNOW, AND THIS PROJECT HAS GIVEN THEM SOME KIND OF HOPE IT'S GIVEN THEM SOME KIND OF STATUS WITHIN THE CAMP BECAUSE WITHIN THIS CAMP OBVIOUSLY THERE IS A MORE SINISTER SIDE IN RESPECT OF PEOPLE POSSIBLY APPROACHING YOUNG MEN ESPECIALLY TO DO THINGS THAT POSSIBLY WOULD HURT INNOCENT PEOPLE CUỘC SỐNG Ở ZAATARI RẤT VẤT VẢ NHỮNG NGƯỜI OF THE LEFTOVERS OF WAR AND ENSURE THEIR SAFETY IN THE FUTURE IT'S ALSO ABOUT THE MAGIC BALL THAT DRAWS CHILDREN TOGETHER, TO BE HONEST WITH YOU ONCE CHILDREN SEE A FOOTBALL THEY GATHER ROUND IT ĐIỀU SOCIAL COHESION, TO WORK TOGETHER, TO HAVE TEAM WORK, TO UNDERSTAND EACH OTHER, AND TO HAVE THE TIME TO DO SOMETHING WHICH EVERYBODY LOVES IN THE WORLD AND THAT'S THE POWER OF FOOTBALL SO, WE'RE VERY Paintballing – European Championships - GBR [Notes:16:31: team breaks away] Ardingly in south-east England plays host to the British leg of the Millennium European Paintball Series [Notes:16:39: after music crash] also known as The Campaign Cup [Notes:16:47: crawling to barrier] The Campaign Cup is the world's oldest Paintball competition, and it's evolved considerably since the inaugural event back in 1989, when 12 teams took part [Notes:16:59: UPSOT (English)] LET'S GO! [Notes:17:01: after UPSOT] This year, around 1500 competitors from around the world are involved in this, the penultimate leg of the Series [Notes:17:09: after loads gun] The event organiser is Barry Fuggle [Notes:17:14: SOT: BARRY FUGGLE (English)] WE HAVE 141 TEAMS HERE OVER THE WEEKEND, THREE DAYS OF PLAY ON FOUR COURTS OR FIELDS AS YOU SEE BEHIND ME WE'VE GOT TEAMS FROM ABOUT 42 NATIONS HERE FROM AS FAR AWAY AS PANAMA, ONE FROM AUSTRALIA, SOUTH AFRICA, EVERY EUROPEAN COUNTRY, AND OF COURSE INCLUDING THE UK, ARE HERE [Notes:17:39: on knees] Paintball was first played in the 1980s in the United States Players use carbon dioxide or nitrogen powered 'paintball markers' to eliminate opponents from play, shooting them with marble-sized, gelatine paint balls [Notes:17:55: SOT: BARRY FUGGLE (English)] IT'S LIKE A SUPER-FAST GAME OF CHESS WHERE THE PLAYERS ARE THE PIECES AND THE BUNKERS THAT YOU CAN SEE BEHIND ME ARE THE PLAYING BOARD THE GUYS HERE HAVE GOT TO THINK FAST, THEY'VE GOT TO WORK TOGETHER AS A TEAM AND THEY'VE GOT TO OUT-MANOEUVRE THEIR OPPOSITION IT'S AS SIMPLE AS THAT [Notes:18:18: after wipe] Ryan Moorhead has travelled over from the United States to compete at the event [Notes:18:24: SOT: RYAN MOORHEAD (English)] IT'S A LOT MORE OF AN INTENSE GAME THAN CHESS, BUT YOU STILL HAVE THE MENTAL MOVES AND EVERY MOVE THAT GETS MADE, THERE'S COUNTERS TO THAT, SO YOU HAVE TO HAVE THE FIELD VISION TO SEE IT ALL BUT WHEN YOU BREAK IT DOWN, IT REALLY DOES COMPARE TO CHESS A LOT I THINK WHAT HOOKED ME IS THE ADRENALIN FACTOR IT TAKES A LOT OF DIFFERENT THINGS TO BE GOOD AT THIS IT'S A MENTAL GAME AS WELL AS A PHYSICAL GAME AND YOU PUT THAT ALL TOGETHER WITH PEOPLE SHOOTING THESE PAINTBALL MARKERS AT YOU IT'S PRETTY INTENSE [Notes:18:53: SOT: RYAN MOORHEAD (English)] ONCE WE START THE GAME A LOT OF IT COMES DOWN TO COMMUNICATION AND TEAM WORK ON THE FIELD SO THE BETTER YOU ARE AT COMMUNICATING AND GETTING THAT ACROSS, THE BETTER TEAM YOU'LL BE [Notes:19:06: after scorer] Points are scored when a player reaches the opposition's flag station and presses the buzzer without being hit [Notes:19:17: after buzzer] Whoever is leading at the end of 15 minutes, wins the game [Notes:19:22: SOT: BARRY FUGGLE (English)] THERE'S FIVE PLAYING ON A TEAM THEY'LL HAVE A SQUAD OF SEVEN PER MATCH AND THEY CAN ROTATE ANY PAINTBALL THAT BURSTS ON ANY PART OF THE BODY, IT'S OUT THAT'S AN ELIMINATION AND THEY HAVE TO PULL THEMSELVES OUT OF THE GAME IMMEDIATELY [Notes:19:48: two behind barrier] Both the UK Paintball Sports Federation and the players here are keen to dispel the notion that this sport is a paramilitarytype activity catering for combat-obsessed individuals [Notes:20:00: SOT: RYAN MOORHEAD (English)] I THINK THAT'S ONE OF THE BIGGEST MISCONCEPTIONS PEOPLE THINK WE'RE OUT THERE AND ITS LIKE A SIMULATION WAR GAME AND IT ISN'T ANYTHING LIKE THAT ITS MORE OF AN EXTREME ACTION SPORT OUR PAINTBALL MARKERS DO SHOOT PROJECTILES BUT THEY'RE GELATIN PROJECTILES WITH PAINT INSIDE NO ONE'S GETTING HURT [Notes:20:17: players entering field] Given the nature of the sport, every precaution is taken to maximise player safety The speed of the balls being fired is limited to 90 metres per second, and protective equipment must be worn at all times [Notes:20:34: SOT: KIRILL BRIHIDNI (English)] UNDER THE JERSEY AND UNDER MY PANTS I'VE GOT KNEE PADS AND ELBOW PADS AND THIS IS SUPER NECESSARY AND WE'RE NOT JUST RUNNING ON FOOT, WE SLIDE, WE DIVE THAT'S WHY WE HAVE THE PADDING, NOT TO GET ANY INJURIES [Notes:20:47: SOT: BARRY FUGGLE (English)] THE MARSHALLS BEHIND US, THEY WILL CHECK THEM GOING ON AND COMING OFF, AND THEY CAN RANDOMLY CHECK THEM AT ANY TIME, AND THERE ARE PENALTIES FOR EXCEEDING THOSE RULES IT'S VERY STRICTLY CONTROLLED AND ADHERED TO [Notes:21:04: player behind barrier] The competition's climax sees Canada's 'Edmonton Impact' take on the 'Russian Legion' from Moscow [Notes:21:16: crowd cutaway] Edmonton edge the final by four points to three, sealing victory in the final minute The final round of the European Paintball Series takes place in Paris in September END Top / Sting Top – World Sports – VAR [Notes:21:37: sting] This week's Top features some more lesser-known sporting pursuits [Notes:21:50: after sting] First up is Stone Skimming Once a year, a small island off Scotland's west coast hosts the Stone Skimming World Championships The event is held in a disused quarry Judges look for distance rather than bounces [Notes:22:09: after sting] Next is the German sport of Hockern in which all meet up with a 15-year-old by the name of Satnam Singh The 7' 1" teenager had big dreams to match his huge size and was being primed to become the first Indian-born player to star in North American Basketball's NBA In 2015, Satnam's dream came true when he was snapped up by the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA Draft Back when we met up with him, he was already being dubbed "the Indian Yao Ming", and in the years ahead he could well make a similar impact on the sport [Notes:39:26: SOT: SATNAM SINGH (Hindi)] AT THE MOMENT, BASKETBALL IN INDIA IS GRADUALLY GETTING MORE POPULAR THE STANDARD OF PLAY IS GETTING BETTER TOO THERE'S A GOOD BASE FOR THE SPORT TO GROW THERE IF I BECOME A SUCCESSFUL PLAYER IN THE FUTURE, THEN I BELIEVE THAT THE POPULARITY OF BASKETBALL WILL INCREASE IN INDIA IT WOULD BE GREAT TO HELP INDIA BECOME A MAJOR FORCE IN THE GAME JUST LIKE THE SUCCESS OF YAO MING CONTRIBUTED GREATLY TO THE RISE OF BASKETBALL IN CHINA, I HOPE THAT ANY SUCCESS THAT I ACHIEVE CAN BENEFIT INDIAN BASKETBALL [Notes:40:02: tracking shot in car] Situated below Tampa Bay, on Florida's west coast, lies Bradenton [Notes:40:12: split screen] This quiet corner of the "Sunshine State" is home to IMG ONE OF THE FIRST THINGS THAT TEAMS LOOK AT IN THE FUTURE IF HE CONTINUES TO WORK HARD AND CONTINUES TO GROW AND CONTINUES TO BECOME A BETTER ATHLETE, CONTINUES TO BECOME A BETTER BASKETBALL PLAYER, THERE'S NO DOUBT HE'LL BE ONE OF THE FIRST INDIAN PLAYERS EVER TO PLAY IN THE NBA [Notes:40:53: after SOT] Satnam hails from the Punjab region of India [Notes:40:59: after basket] At the age of 10, he COACHES SUCH AS NATE, ARE REALLY GOOD THEY KNOW SO MUCH ABOUT BASKETBALL AND THEY'VE BEEN TEACHING ME A LOT I'VE ALREADY LEARNT SO MUCH IN JUST A SHORT SPACE OF TIME FOR EXAMPLE, WHEN I FIRST CAME HERE, I WASN'T THAT GOOD AT JUMPING, BUT NOW I'M A LOT BETTER I'VE IMPROVED ON SIMPLE THINGS LIKE THAT THERE'S STILL SO MUCH MORE FOR ME TO LEARN, BUT I'M DEFINITELY IN THE RIGHT PLACE TO DO SO THEY MAKE YOU WORK REALLY HARD HERE, BUT THAT'S FINE BY ME [Notes:42:13: after SOT] Satnam's Basketball skills were still fairly raw, but the coaches at the Academy were confident that they could mould him into a more refined player, and given his size, they were sure that the 15-year-old had the potential to make an impact at the highest level [Notes:42:29: SOT:NATE VANDER SLUIS (English)] OBVIOUSLY, THE FIRST TIME I SAW HIM I WAS REALLY EXCITED AS A BIG GUY MYSELF, IT'S ALWAYS FUN TO HAVE ANOTHER BIG GUY TO COACH THIS YEAR KIND OF MY GOAL FOR HIM WAS FOR HIM TO BECOME A BETTER ATHLETE, TO BE ABLE TO JUMP HIGHER, TO BE ABLE TO MOVE FASTER, TO BE ABLE TO MOVE HIS FEET QUICKER, TO BE ABLE TO GET OFF THE GROUND FASTER, YOU KNOW LITTLE THINGS THAT ARE GOING TO HELP HIM IN THE LONG TERM AND AS HE STARTS TO REALLY IMPROVE AS AN ATHLETE WE'LL BE ABLE TO TURN HIM INTO A TRUE POST PLAYER AND A DOMINANT FORCE UNDERNEATH THE BASKET [Notes:42:57: after SOT] As well as working out on the court, a big part of Satnam's training regime included time in the gym Hailing from a farming family, Satnam, who's father is 7' 2" and who's grandmother is 6' 9", had always had natural strength [Notes:43:14: man WISK HE DOES AN AWESOME JOB HE REALLY HAS GREAT ENERGY WITH OUR GUYS HE REALLY MAKES THEM BRING IT EVERY SINGLE DAY AND THERE'S NO DOUBT THAT HE'S GOING TO CONTINUE TO GET STRONGER HE'S GOING TO CONTINUE TO GET QUICKER AS HE CONTINUES TO WORK, HE'S JUST GOING TO BECOME A BETTER AND BETTER PLAYER, THERE'S NO DOUBT [Notes:43:53: comes through door] Satnam had settled well into his first year of life in America He attended the school on the Academy's campus [Notes:44:04: in classroom] Considering that he didn't speak a word of English when he arrived, his language skills had improved dramatically thanks to the extra classes that he'd been taking Rich Odell was school principal [Notes:44:16: SOT:RICH ODELL (English)] HE'S DONE A GREAT JOB OF BECOMING PART OF THE COMMUNITY HE HAS LOOKED UPON HIMSELF INITIALLY AS SOMEBODY WHO, BECAUSE OF HIS SIZE WAS INTIMIDATING TO PEOPLE, BUT AS HE HAS GOT MORE COMFORTABLE WITH THE COMMAND OF THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE HE'S FOUND A WAY TO USE THAT AS AN INTRODUCTION FOR HIMSELF SO, WHAT HE DOES NOW, HE WALKS UP AND ENGAGES IN CONVERSATION WITH PEOPLE BECAUSE HE WANTS TO PRACTICE HIS ENGLISH [Notes:44:42: after SOT] The Academy remains a cosmopolitan place with youngsters from over 80 countries in attendance The majority live onsite in purpose-built apartment blocks [Notes:44:55: SOT:NATE VANDER SLUIS (English)] I THINK HE'S SETTLED IN REALLY WELL HE'S A FUN LOVING KID, HE LIKES TO HANG OUT AND BE WITH HIS FRIENDS AND JOKE AND DO DIFFERENT THINGS I THINK MAKING THE TRANSITION HAS REALLY BEEN HELPED BY HAVING THE OTHER INDIAN KIDS HERE IF HE WAS JUST HERE BY HIMSELF, I THINK IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A LOT HARDER ON HIM, HE WOULD HAVE HAD A LOT MORE HOME SICKNESS, A LOT MORE DIFFICULTIES IN TERMS OF TRANSITIONING TO BE HERE [Notes:45:17: after SOT] Satnam and the other Indian children on the scholarship programme had a full-time chaperone at the Academy Harshit Shah acted as translator, friend, advisor and he also accompanied the youngsters when they ventured away from the campus On the day that Trans World Sport was in town, Satnam and his friends took a trip to nearby Bradenton Beach [Notes:45:43: SOT: SATNAM WE ALL LOOK FORWARD TO WE TRY TO MAKE GOING TO THE BEACH A REGULAR THING THAT WE DO [Notes:46:06: after SOT] The beaches of Florida were a far cry from the fields and villages of northern India where Satnam grew up [Notes:46:14: people in water] He returned home occasionally, though, and loved getting reacquainted with his Mum's cooking [Notes:46:22: SOT: SATNAM SINGH (Hindi)] I REALLY MISS INDIAN FOOD I LOVE MY OWN FOOD; THINGS LIKE INDIAN BREAD AND LENTIL SOUP, THEY'RE TWO OF MY FAVOURITES I LOVE EATING INDIAN FOOD JUST THINKING ABOUT IT MAKES ME HUNGRY! [Notes:46:38: after SOT] Even at this stage in his career, Satnam was becoming something of a celebrity in his homeland The teenager's story had been covered extensively in the Indian media and it was clear that if he were to become the first Indian player to make it to the NBA, his status could rival that of India's Cricket stars And that's exactly what has happened The NBA remains determined to crack the Indian market and they have been investing a lot of time and effort in promoting the game in the nation of over one billion people They watched Satnam's development with great interest and were hopeful that he could be a trailblazer for the sport in India, in much the same way that the success of former NBA star, Yao Ming, led to the basketball boom in China [Notes:47:23: SOT:NATE VANDER SLUIS (English)] YOU KNOW, YAO MING WAS DEFINITELY A SPECIAL CASE AND I THINK THAT SATNAM IS ALSO A SPECIAL CASE HE'S GOT THAT NATURAL SIZE, HE'S GOT SOME NATURAL ABILITY, HE'S GOT GREAT HANDS SIMILAR TO YAO MING HE'S GOT SOME GOOD FOOTWORK THAT'S SIMILAR TO YAO MING YOU KNOW, YAO MING WASN'T AN EXPLOSIVE ATHLETE, NEITHER IS SATNAM BUT AT THE I THINK SAME TIME SATNAM LOVES THE GAME AND I THINK YAO MING LOVED THE GAME SO, I THINK THAT THERE'S A LOT OF SIMILARITIES BETWEEN THOSE TWO GUYS AND HOPEFULLY, IF SATNAM KEEPS WORKING, HE'LL HAVE THAT SAME CAREER THAT YAO MING HAD END Lookahead / Sting Lookahead [Notes:48:02:sting] Coming soon on the show [Notes:48:06:after sting] We journey to Uruguay to meet 83 year-old decathlete, Raul Lopez Barrera [Notes:48:13:people] And we follow the Ski Mountaineers scaling the highest peaks of Switzerland and France [Notes:48:20:titles] Don't forget you can keep up to date with us on Twitter, Instagram and YouTube END ... 2012 The Za'atari Refugee camp is home to around 80,000 Syrian refugees who've fled south from the conflict that's plaguing their nation Young children make up nearly half the camp' s population,...
