Date19/8 /2009 Period 1: ******* lesson 1: review - present simple tense. - past simple tense. *Aim : Further practice with Simple Present tense and Simple Past tense *Objective : By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: – use simple present tense and simple past tense. *Language focus : - Grammar / Structure: Simple Present tense and Simple past tense. - Vocabulary:review *Teaching aids : Text book, cards *Teaching procedure : Stage Teaching procedure Interaction Warm up Shark attack. - Cut out and a schoolgirl from card. - Draw some steps then stick the cut out girl on the top of the steps,the sea is around the steps and the shark is in the sea. - Draw 10 gaps for the word Simple Past - Get Ss in teams (or ask them as a whole class) to guess the letters of the word.If their guess is right,they will get one mark.If their guess is not right,the girl has to step down. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ (Simple Past) T S – S Presentation 1.Simple present tense. Form: S + V(s/es) Usage: Simple present tense is used to express a habit in the present time. Ex: I always go to school by bike. Note : Verb form of the third person singular. T – Ss a. Verbs ending in : - ch, - sh, - s, - ss , - tch , - x, - z , -zz, - o ,we add es to form the third person singular. Ex: kiss kisses go goes watch watches mix mixes b. Verbs ending in “y” followes a consonant we change the “y” in to “i” and add es. study studies try tries But verbs ending in “y” following a vowel obey the usual rule. Ex: obey obeys say says play plays 2.Simple past tense. Form : S + Ved/PI Usage : Simple past tense is used to express an action,which happens and finishes in the past. Ex: Yesterday, I went to the library. Note:Verb form of simplepast tense. Regular Verbs. We add “ed” after that verb. Ex: like liked love loved study studied Irregular Verbs: go went take took say said Verb form of the Regular Verbs. - Verbs ending in “e” we only add “d” Ex: live – lived - Verbs ending in “y” followes a consonant we change the “y” in to “i” and add ed. Ex: study studied try tried - Verbs ending in “y” following a vowel obey the usual rule. Ex: obey obeyed play played T – Ss Practice Exercise1. Put the verbs in the correct form, simple present tense or simple past tense. a.I (go) on holiday twice a year. b.When we was young we (enjoy cartoon film very much. c.She (miss) the train this morning. d.My brother (smoke) 20 cigarettes a day. e.Lan (watch) TV every morning. f.Lan (watch) TV last night. - Get Ss’answer. - Give feedback and correct. Ss Production Nought and Crosses. - Divide the class in to two teams.Noughts (O) and Crosses (X). - Draw a nine square grid on the board. - Each square is numbered (from 1 to 9) - The team will take turn to choose the number and have to make a question and an answer to that question(Teacher give the cue or the cue is written in each square) - If their answer is correct ,put a X/ O in that box. - The first team has three Os or three Xs in a line on the gird will win the game. 1.What/ do /you/night? 2.your mother/cook? 3.When/ you/ have/math 4.Where / you/ live? 5.How/go/schoo l/ last year? 6.you/ watch/ Tv/ last night? 7.What/ brother/ do/ weekend? 8.Howmany/pen / you/have? 9.your father / like/rock music? * Possible answers: 1.What did you do last night? 2. T – Ss T Ss – Ss S - S Consolida tion - Ask Ss to talk about what they have just learnt to review Ss Home work - Ask Ss to write 5 sentences about what they do everyday and 5 sentences about what they did Ss yesterday. *********************************************** Period2 : Date20/8/2009 unit 1 : my friends Lessn1 : Getting started- listen and read. *Aim : Reading the dialogue for details and revision of simple present and simple past tenses *Objective : By the end of the lesson, students will be able to know more about Hoa – Lan – Nien and to review simple present and simple past tense. *Language focus: - Grammar / Structure: Present simple to talk about general truths - Vocabulary: to seem a next door neighbor to look like *Teaching aids : Text book, cards *Teaching procedure : Stage Teaching procedure Interaction Warm- up Chatting - Ask Ss to loot at four picture on page 10 and talk about the activities they want to do after school or in their free time. - Give them questions - What are these Ss doing? (play soccer/ play chess / read books / play volleyball) - What time of the day do you think it is? (in the morning / evening / afterschool) - Do you like soccer / reading books? - Whom do you like playing which? T S - S Pre - Reading I. Pre teach vocabulary - to seem (v) (translation) - a next door neighbor (n)(explanation) a person who lives next to your house. - to look like (v) * Checking Vocabulary : T Rub out and remember. - Rub out the new words one at a time - Each time you rub out an English word , point to the Vietnamese translation and ask “What is this in English?” - When all the words are rubbed out, go through the Vietnamese list and get Ss to call the English words . - If there is time , get Ss to come to the board and write the English words again. II.Pre- question . - Ask Ss to look at picture on p 10. - Give Ss some questions and ask them to work in pairs to answer them. a. Is Nien Lan’s friend or Hoa’s friend? b. How old is Nien? c.Where does Nien live? d.Is she a beautifuf girl? - Give feedback. T – Ss Ss T – Ss Ss T While Reading Post reading - Ask Ss to read the dialogue between Hoa, Lan and Nien on page 10 and check is they are correct or not . I. Comprehention question : - Ask Ss to read the dialogue again and answer the questions in exercise 2 on page 11 (work in pairs) - Call on some Ss to ask and answer the questions. - Correct the mistakes or pronunciation - Ask them to work in closed pairs. II.Gap - filling. - Ask Ss to use the simple present and simple past tense to complete paragraph (1) a on page 16. - Provide some verbs so that Ss can use them to fill in th gap. *Answers: a .lived, lives, sent, was,is. b. is, are, came, showed, introduced. - Ask Ss to work individually and then compare their answers with their partners. - Give feedback. *Writing : - Ask Ss to write a paragraph about Lan and Hoa. - Give Ss some cues and ask them to use the simple present or simple past tense to write individually. *Cues: a.Lan/Hoa’s best friend. b.They / same class / Quang Trung school. c. Last year / Hoa / to school the first time. d. Lan / show / around / introduce / to new friends. Ss S – S Ss Ss T Ss T Ss - Let Ss dicuss with their partners. - Choose some answers and correct them. consolidation Home work - Focus Ss on vocabulary and structures. - Ask Ss to do exercise 1 (a),1(b) on their notebooks Ss Date: 19/8/2009 *Aim : Listening for details to complete the dialogue and speak to describe some one. *Objective: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to describe someone and complete the dialogue by listening. *Language focus: - Vocabulary: Adjectives used to describe body built and hair. - Grammer/ Structure: Form: S + have/ has + adjectives + hair S + be + adjectives. *Teaching aids : Text book, cards,pictures *Teaching procedure: Stage Teaching procedure Interaction Unit 1: My Friends Lesson 2: Speak(P11) Listen(P12,13) Period 3 Warm- up *Brainstorming: - Ask Ss to think of the adjectives used to describe body built and hair. Thin curly Body build hair *Possible answers: Body built: fat, slim, tall, short, over weight, slender. Hair: straight, long, short, color: black, dark, blond, fair, brown, grey. T – Ss S – S Presentation - Show Ss a picture of Mary and ask them to describe her hair, her body build. Ex: She has long blond hair. She is short and thin. Form: S + have/has + adjectives + hair. S + be adjectives. T Ss T – Ss Practice I.Word- Cue Drill– - Prepare 6 cards so that Ss can drill easily. - Ask Ss to make sentences with the given words. a.He/ tall/ thin b.She/ short/ slim c.He/ short/ fat d.long/ black e.curly/ blond f.straight/ brown II. Practice Speaking. - Show the poster of six people or ask Ss to look at six people on page 11,12. - Call on a S to describe one person, the others have to guess who he/she is. Example: S1: This person is short and thin. She has long blond hair. S2: Is this Mary? S1: Yes. - Go on until six people on the poster are described. - If there is time , ask Ss to describe a famous person or one of their classmates and their friends have to guess. T Ss T S S – Ss Ss Body built Hair Pre- Listening -Ask Ss to do exercise “Listen a,b,c,d” on page 12,13. - Give Ss some expressions and make sure they know their meanings. - Get Ss to guess and complete four dialogues on page 12,13 ,using the given expressions. - Give feedback Ss T Ss T While - Listening - Let Ss listen to the tape twice . - Get Ss to work in pairs to complete the dialogues and compare with their prediction. * Tape transcript. a.
