and installing road signs in accordance with this Specification and to the details shown on the Drawings, or as required by the Engineer The road signs shall comply in size and shape with the applicable Vietnamese signage standards and details shown on the Drawings The material requirements for road signs complying to National Technical Regulation on Road Signs and Signals QCVN 41:2012 The categories of road signs are designated as danger warning signs, regulatory signs and infonnative signs, or guide signs Road signs shall be classified as standard or non-standard Standard signs consist of all warning signs, regulatory signs and infonnatory signs with the exception of đừection signs, place identification signs and the like Non-Standard signs consist of all informatory signs which are not classified as standard signs The size of warning and regulatory signs is the length of the side of ừĩangular signs (measured from the points of intersection of the extension of the edges), the horizontal width of octagonal signs and the diameter of cừcular signs Reference standard TCVN 8791-2011 Traffic paints Specifications, constructions and acceptances QCVN 41:2012 National Technical Regulation on Road Signs and Signals TCVN 7887:2008 Retroreflective sheeting for traffic signals Construction 3.1 Excavation and backfilling Holes shall be excavated to the required depth to the bottom of the concrete foundation as shown on the Drawings or as directed by tile Engineer Backfilling shall be carried out bv using the class of concrete shown on the Drawings Siirnlns excavated material shall be disposed of by the Contractor as directed by the Engineer 3.2 Erection of posts The posts shall be erected vertically in position inside of formwork of the foundation block prior to bending of the sign panels shall be considered as sufficient cause to require replacement of the panels at the Contractor’s expense The exposed portion of the fastening hardware on the face of the signs shall be painted with enamels matching the background color 3.4 Resetting Signs Existing sign panel that are indicated in the drawings to be reset and subject to the Engineer’s approval, shall be removed, stored and cleaned prior to re-installation on new posts or onto existing poles, posts or structures Materials 4.1 Sign Panels Sign panels for warning, regulatory, and informatory signs shall complying with QCVN 41:2012 National Technical Regulation on Road Signs and Signals PHUONG THANH TRANCONSIN VRAMP – CONTRACT PACKAGE:RAP/CP15 – MAINTENANCE OF NH6 FROM KM193÷KM233 IN SON LA Sign panels for warning, regulatory, and informatory signs shall be flat sheet aluminum, hard alloy and having a minimum thickness of mm Such sheets are to be degreased, etched, neutralized and processed prior to use as traffic sign panels 4.2 Reflective Sheeting Reflective sheeting to be applied shall be the one grade IV which satisfies the regulation in TCVN 7887 :2008 The value of reflective glare of the sheets shall be in accordance with the specifications The glare of wet sheets due to raining shall not under the given value The sheet shall be enough elastic for application of binding force for the front side The sheet shall have ability of solvent protection for the cleaning with petrol, diesel oil, petroleum spữit, pine tar The sheet shall not be with cracks or reflection reduction after tested with a steel ball of diameter of head impact of 15.8mm from the required drop height to create force of impact 1.13Nm on a side of the reflective sheet, beating force The adhesive stuff shall ensure the adherent of the sheet with precise manner The reflective material shall be the one with the weather resistance ability and in cleaning it shall not be faded away, cracking, blindered or any changes in dimension The samples shall be submitted to the Employer and the Engineer for review and approval This Technical Specifications refers to the plastic reflective sheet containing the highangle polygon elements chromatic or white and other relating manufacturing materials to increase the visible capacity at day/night time of the objects or sign boards 4.3 Posts Road sign posts shall be constructed of steel pine, hot din galvanized and having a minimum internal diameter of 75mm and/or conform to the detailed design This includes pipe fittings and post caps All open ends shall be capped to prevent water entry 4.4 Nuts, Bolts and Fixings Nuts, bolts, washers and other metal parts shall be hot-dip galvanized after fabrication 4.5 Concrete Foundations Concrete for foundations for sign posts shall be of class as shown on the Drawings All other requirements for materials and foundations shall conform to the applicable requirements Foundations shall be poured in one pour where practicable Signs shall not be erected on the poles until a minimum of 72 hrs after placing the concrete PHUONG THANH TRANCONSIN VRAMP – CONTRACT PACKAGE:RAP/CP15 – MAINTENANCE OF NH6 FROM KM193÷KM233 IN SON LA II KM POST, HM POST AND GUIDE POSTS General This item shall consist of kilometer posts, hectometer post and guide posts, furnished and installed in accordance with this Specification at the locations, and in conformity with the sizes, dimensions and design, shown on the Drawings, or as requừed by the Engineer This Specification section also includes markings of paint where shown on the Drawings or requfred by the Engineer Reference standards The latest version of the following standards shall be applied to the Work mentioned in the Specifications: TCVN 8791-2011 Traffic paints - Specifications, Constructions and Acceptances Test methods, QCVN 41:2012 National Technical Regulation on Road Signs and Signals Construction Construction or fabrication and installation of kilometer posts, hectometer post and guide posts shall be as shown on the Drawings and shall include the painting of posts, as required Each monument and post shall be set accurately at die requfred location and elevation and in such manner as to insure its being held firmly in place In constructing precast monuments and posts, the forms shall not be removed until after the concrete has hardened Kilometer posts, hectometer post and guide posts tiiat are warped shall be rejected The exposed surface of the finished monuments and posts shall be uniform, of even texture, and shall be free from holes, cracks and chipped edges The precast monuments and post shall not be transported to the work until the concrete has been cured During the construction of posts, any post existing within the length of driving posts shall be removed before placing new posts Material 4.1 Concrete Concrete shall be of the class indicated on the drawings and in accordance with the requirements of Specification section “Concrete and Concrete Structures” 4.2 REINFORCING Steel PHUONG THANH TRANCONSIN VRAMP – CONTRACT PACKAGE:RAP/CP15 – MAINTENANCE OF NH6 FROM KM193÷KM233 IN SON LA Reinforcing steel shall conform to the requirements of Specification section “Reinforcing Steel” 4.3 Paint Paints, as required, shall conform to the requirements shown on the Drawings and approved by the Engineer All coatings, paints and enamels used in the preparation of the posts and fittings shall be of the best quality, specially made for the purpose they serve, and of types and brands approved by the Engineer To ensure compatibility, primers, undercoats and finishing coats shall be from the same manufacturer All materials shall be used within the time limits specified by the manufacturer 4.4 Repainting Kilometer posts and guide posts, protection posts at the locations specified in drawings in layers (primer, base, finish) Before painting the primer, clean the surface with a wire brush so as to the Supervision Consultant’s approval 4.5 Levelling up the existing posts Posts at thick asphalt sections will be levelled up as specified in the Drawings and guided by the Engineer Levelling up posts consists of footing excavation, lifting posts, concreting, backfilling and painting according to the design 4.6 Levelling up the existing km posts Km posts will be levelled up as specified in the Drawings and guided by the Engineer Levelling up lan posts consists of footing excavation, lifting Km posts, concreting, backfilling and painting according to the design III GUADRAIL Material 1.1 Guadrail Guardrail made from steel of thickness no less than 12 gauge which shall: Elongate not less than 12 percent in a cm long specimen under tensile test; have an ultimate tensile strength of no less than 5,600 kg/sq.cm; have a beam strength including joints of 680 leg at a deflection of cm when tested on a clear span of 365 cm with a load applied through an cm wide Guardrails shall be galvanized in accordance with AASHTO M-111 All galvanizing shall be done after fabrication Steel that meets the Vietnamese standard QCVN 41:2012 or iron type CT38 is also acceptable for guardrail, provided it is galvanized as required 1.2 Guadrail hardware Offset brackets shall be as shown on the Drawings and approved by the Engineer Splices and end of connections shall be of the type and design as shown on the Drawings, and shall be of such strength as to develop the full design strength of the rail elements Unless otherwise specified, all fittings, bolts, washers and other accessories shall be galvanized in accordance with the requirements of AASHTO M 232 All galvanizing shall be done after fabrications 1.3 Guadrail post They shall be of a copper bearing steel Steel shall conform to requirements of AASHTO M 183 for the grade specified the Steel that meets the Vietnamese standard QCVN 41:2012 or steel type CT34 is also acceptable for guardrail post Posts shall be galvanized in accordance with requirements of AASHTO M 111 All galvanizing shall be done after fabrication Wire cable shall meet the requirements of AASHTO M 181 Concrete deadmen for end anchorages shall be as specified, or as shown on the Drawings Concrete shall be class of concrete noted on the drawings conform to the requirements of Specification section 06100, “Concrete and Concrete Structures” Reinforcement shall conform to the requirements of Specification section 06400 “Reinforcing Steel” All bars shall be of the deformed type Concrete posts shall be of the section and length shown on the drawings Galvanizing repairs In the event that minor damage to the galvanized coating of the guardrail of guardrail hardware occurs, the Engineer may rather than require removal and replacement allow the Contractor to make repairs three applications of zinc anticorrosive paint as approved by the Engineer The Contractor shall provide all details and information including manufacture’s application and surface preparation requirements for the approval of the Engineer of the repaừ application coating that he may propose to use Repair coating application shall not proceed until such information and data has been approved by the Engineer PHUONG THANH TRANCONSIN VRAMP – CONTRACT PACKAGE:RAP/CP15 – MAINTENANCE OF NH6 FROM KM193÷KM233 IN SON LA Construction 3.1 Posts Post shall be set vertically in the position shown on the Drawings and, where embedded in a concrete foundation block, shall remain undisturbed for a minimum 48 hours The space around the post shall be backfilled to the ground line with approved material in layers not exceeding 100 mm and each layer shall be moistened and thoroughly compacted 3.2 Rail elements Rail elements shall be erected in a manner resulting in a smooth continuous installation All bolts, except adjustment bolts, shall be drawn tight Bolts shall be of sufficient length to extend beyond the nuts at least mm but not more than 100 mm Where galvanized surfaces have been abraded so that the base material is exposed, the threaded portions of all fittings and fasteners and cut ends of bolts shall be protected in a manner as using a zinc based coating in accordance with subsection 3.3 Reconstruct ion and raising of existing guardrail Some sections of this guardrail, generally in areas of thick asphalt overlay shall be raised, as shown on the Drawings and as instructed by trie Engineer The method for doing this is as follows: Remove all re-usable rails, bolts, nuts, washers, offset blocks and safely store [as near site of re-use as possible, but in location where re-usable material is not made duty] for re-use Ensure no damage comes to stored components Repair and rails if necessary Inspect all recovered material and agree with Engineer what can be re-used and what should be scrapped [Note: Intention is to re-use as much as possible] Any scrapped material shall be disposed of [refer Specification section 01700-2.2.4 Solid Wast Control] so as not to cause pollution or nuisance Excavation, rasing of guardrail, ensure by on-site survey that top of posts follow a smooth alignment [So that rails once fixed afterwards also follow a smooth alignment] Refix rails, using recovered and reusable rails, offset blocks, nuts, bolts and washers, [and if necessary any additional new items that have to be purchased with the agreement of the Engineer] to reinstate guardrail Wash and hand clean refixed rails as instructed by the Engineer IV IMPLEMENTATION OF ROAD MARKINGS Scope of work PHUONG THANH TRANCONSIN VRAMP – CONTRACT PACKAGE:RAP/CP15 – MAINTENANCE OF NH6 FROM KM193÷KM233 IN SON LA Road surface marking work includes construction and finishing road surface makings at all locations which require Road surface marking work also includes supplying and coating in correct locations, with correct colors, shape, sample and dimension indicated in drawings and approved by the Engineer Before starting road surface marking work, the Contractor must receive approvals for materials to be used, equipment and work implementation method Requirements of materials The thermoplastic material shall be sampled and tested in accordance with the appropriate ASTM method (ASTM D7307-06 Standard Practice for sampling of Thermoplastic Traffic Marking Materials and ASTM D4797-88 (2007) - Standard test methods for Chemical and Gravimetric Analysis of White and Yellow Thermoplastic Traffic Machine Containing lead Chromate and Titanium Oxide) The Contractor shall furnish to the Engineer a copy of certified test reports from the manufacturer of the thermoplastic material showing results of all tests specified and shall certify that the material meets all requirements of Project Specification Glass beads compliant with AASHTO M247, are provided for surface markings of road and median Glass beads are premixed with paint or coated right after painting to obtain a finished reflective surface Construction method for road surface marking 3.1 Surface cleaning Area of surface shall be marked to clean up, dry in order to be free of sand, dust, grease, and oil # # # # # # # # measurements and mark by road marking machine with dimensions indicated in design drawing Benchmarks and locations of all road surface markings must be accepted by Engineer before starting placed on the transportation vehicle Feed white plastic material to heater to heat it up and stir up until obtaining uniformed viscosity Melting temperature is controlled from 1800C to 2000C depending on ambient temperature Overheating should be prohibited to avoid color change that may occur 3.4 Implement road surface marking Marking lines are implemented by robotic marking machine which is equipped with auto-interrupting valve and nozzle to create tidy and sharp lines Feed melting material into container of the machine Make sure the melting temperature is always at appropriate level (1800C to 2000C) All paint markings are graded with proper dimensions in accordance with drawings and accepted by the Engineer # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # Figure: Implement road surface marking After completing paint markings, provide reflective glass beads Throughout implementation process, make sure the ratio of reflective glass beads is no less than 450 gr/m2 Reflective glass beads are laid by robotic air compressing equipment which can embed these beads to 2/3 of bead diameter into the paint strips This can make road applied in a uniform thickness of at least mm for normal pavement and 3.mm for roughened pavement (exclusive of the glass beads applied to the surface) 3.5 Finishing work Road surface markings shall
