however, supporters maintain an educational focus, which helps to educate and inform the public, thereby justifying the existence of zoos on this basis b Many breeding programmes exist in zoos and centres around the world, with the goal of building up populations of _ species to ensure they not eventually become _ and lost to future generations c A considerable number of people feel that _ is no excuse for continuing to destroy animals' natural habitat through activities such as housing development d In the past, many _ of animals were hunted and _ because their skins and fur were prized possessions which fetched considerable sums of money on international black markets Sadly, this illegal trading was often _ for the unnecessary killing of many beautiful animals e A number of international charities and organisations are _ to the protection and _ of endangered animal species, such as the World Wildlife Fund Often their campaigns aim to build global _ of current issues f Wild animals, especially rare ones, are _to be demographically stable, well maintained, and capable of self-sustaining reproduction Therefore, a cooperative international _ and conservation programme has just been designed to achieve these goals g Many natural _ of endangered animals have been _ by pollution and urban development Underline the language in both responses in Activity for causes and solutions Write useful phrases here 193 Causes Solutions Now, write sentences using some of these phrases a cause / global warming / carbon dioxide emissions b reason / unemployment / global recession c solve / global warming / legislation and individual actions d address / unemployment / stimulation of the global economy 10 Work in pairs Answer the following questions about two responses in Activity Response A a How many actions which cause species loss are listed in Paragraph 2? b What type of devices has the writer used to list these causes? c How many solutions are listed in Paragraph 3? d What type of devices has the writer used to list these solutions?
