by developing the ability to learn from life ABOUT US Bridgewater School was founded in 1950 by a group of parents with a shared vision Its story over the past seventy years has been one of great success and it is the school’s original and unchanging standards of endeavour, personal discipline and excellence which have enabled the school to flourish in such an outstanding way Today, Bridgewater School provides independent education across the whole schooling age range in an inspirational setting that is inclusive, stimulating and totally focused on achieving every pupil’s individual goals There are four areas of our school, providing independent education to 490 pupils aged between and 18 years across the same site Whilst each section is distinct, they each blend seamlessly into our special Bridgewater family: • Kindergarten and Reception (3-5 years) • Preparatory (5-11 years) • Seniors (11-16 years) • Sixth Form (16-18 years) Located in the semi-rural setting of Worsley, Greater Manchester, Bridgewater provides education to students from a wide social, cultural and economic background, reflecting the diverse community within which we are based The school successful department We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic teacher of Geography who will teach throughout the Senior School (11-18 years) Applicants will be expected to teach Geography to Key Stage and ideally to Key Stage The willingness to teach another Humanities subject, for example Business Studies or Religious Studies, would be advantageous but not essential The successful applicant will contribute to the wide range of extra-curricular activities within the school and support a variety of field trips, both local and international The school has a positive working environment with and Friday 21st May 2021 THE GEOGRAPHY DEPARTMENT The department provides a varied and engaging extra-curricular programme to broaden students’ learning which includes: The department, consisting of two full-time Geography teachers, is part of a dynamic and highly qualified Humanities team which work together closely to create a collaborative and mutually supportive atmosphere across the department Lessons are taught in well resourced, vibrant subject specific classrooms, providing students with a stimulating and thought-provoking experience with the aim of fostering a sense of place and a lifelong curiosity and appreciation of the world around us At Key Stage 3, students have three hours per fortnight of Geography This increases to five hours at Key Stage and eight hours at Key Stage Geography is compulsory for all Key Stage students and a popular option for GCSE and A-level All examination courses follow AQA specifications and the department is very proud of the excellent examination results that Geography students consistently achieve A significant number of A-level students continue with their geographical studies at university • Field trips locally, nationally and internationally • Lunchtime clubs • Intervention support • Entry to competitions Each year we offer several field trips and practical experiences to enhance our students’ understanding of geographical SPECIFICATION • A degree qualification in a relevant subject • Experience of A-level • Experience of teaching Geography to GCSE • Experience of professional development • Ideally the ability to teach
