Lecturer for Introductory SAS Programming Class Winter Semester 2016 Job Type: Length: Company: Contract 16 weeks (January 11 – April 27th) Wayne State University, Department of Family Medicine and Public Health Sciences Day and Time: Thursday 5-8 pm Compensation: TBD This is a two credit graduate course taught Winter semesters The course is required for MPH Biostatistics students and is an elective for all other MPH students In this course students will become familiar with data management using the SAS language and data situations that one might find in public health This class will cover programming skills and error checking, how to read in data and work with SAS data files, how to use SAS tools for coding and formatting variables, as well as how to write reports and draw basic graphs This is not a course in statistical analysis though the introductory statistics course is a recommended pre-req This is a recurring class and the syllabus is already created Mentoring will be provided, so this is a good starting point for students or others looking to gain experience in teaching Job Expectations:  Lead lecture/lab class Thursday evenings for MPH students looking to gain skills in SAS programming  Provide lecture notes and in-class examples  Construct and grade weekly short homework problems for students to independently  Assist in the construction and grading of the final project  PC SAS will be used  Email communication will be used in lieu of formal office hours The successful candidate will have a combination of the following skills/experience:  MS or MPH in biostatistics or related field OR significant professional experience as a SAS programmer  Extensive knowledge of PC SAS for data management, specifically Base SAS, SAS/GRAPH, and ODS  Knowledge of the uses of SAS programming in public health related fields  Ability to communicate ideas in a lecture and lab setting as well as in writing  Good time management and the ability to be responsive to e-mail For more information, contact: James Janisse, Ph.D Assistant Professor Department of Family Medicine and Public Health Sciences Wayne State University School of Medicine 3939 Woodward Ave, Room 232  Detroit, MI 48201  (313) 577-9812 (voice)
